Tarot Pick-A-Card: The Last Six Months in Review
What did you learn about yourself in 2023?

Let’s reflect on the summer in preparation for the coming darkness and cold. Today I have written three Celtic Cross readings. In each card pile, we will reflect on your general feelings and experiences in the past six months.
The decks I am using for today’s reading are: the Dream Ritual Oracle Cards by Theresa Cheung with illustrations by Noelle T, the Oracle of the Radiant Sun by Caroline Smith and John Astros, Tarot of Mystical Moments by Catrin Wells-Stein, and the I Ching Complete Divination Kit by Emily Anderson.
Shuffling process
I started by shuffling the Dream Ritual deck. I asked it for one significator card for each “six months in review” pile. Then, I shuffled the Oracle of the Radiant Sun deck and asked it for the same. I then repeated this process with the I Ching deck. Then, I chose three black crystals to represent Halloween and placed one stone on each significator card. Then, I took the “choose your pile” photo.
Lastly, I shuffled the Tarot of Mystical Moments and asked it for three piles of ten cards each for a Celtic cross reading, holding “six months in review” in my mind. I took one card at a time, putting them into pile 1, then 2, then 3, until each pile had 10 cards. Then, I laid out all the cards on my patio and took a photo of each pile’s reading.
Let’s get into it. Choose your pile:
Pile 1: Trust with an obsidian stone
Pile 2: Immerse with a snowflake obsidian stone
Pile 3: Flow with a shungite stone

Pile 1

Significator card: A “Trust” candle.
Put your faith into the universe. You appear to be doing the work. Trust the process and keep going.
Astrology card: Mercury in Scorpio with “extremism”
I feel as if the use of the word “extremism” is deceptive here. In the case of Mercury Scorpio astrology, yes, there is the capacity for extreme beliefs or actions. However, in this case, extreme beliefs or actions are a choice and not a fate. “Extremism” in this astrological lineup can also indicate a great change of course or opinion. Mercury Scorpio situations or people can be secretive or private, depending on how you look at it. They are also philosophical and insightful detectives searching for the truth.
I Ching: Hexagram 38 with “Opposing”
This hexagram speaks to the conflicts and challenges that arise when two opposing forces clash. It can represent a difficult situation where you’re up against someone or something, and you’re not sure how to resolve it. Have you experienced the challenges of navigating conflict and finding common ground in the past six months?
Celtic Cross
Root: Six of Swords
This card is illustrated as a person representing black clouds. They hold a staff connected to a star on the top and an actor on the bottom. The star might represent your hopes and the anchor may represent where you find yourself. Depicted below dark clouds is a tropical island surrounded by water. You might have been going through a time of transition and leaving behind something that was no longer serving you.
Crossing: The Hermit
I feel as if this reading might be timely for you. This card in the crossing position indicates that you might have been seeking inner guidance and wisdom this summer, perhaps through self-reflection or spiritual practices.
Below: Six of Wands
In this card, a woman rides a hummingbird. She holds the stem of a flower the hummingbird eats from. Overcoming obstacles appears to have been a recent goal of yours. If this card is any indication, you either have been or will be successful.
Past: Knight of Cups
Partnered with your astrology and I Ching cards, there has been some emotional turmoil or uncertainty in your life. Perhaps there were some unexpected changes or challenges in your personal life.
Above: Ace of Swords
Congrats! A breakthrough has either recently happened or is in the works for you right now. In this card, a well-dressed genderless person holds a key. They represent knowledge and clarity.
Future: King of Cups
A man holds a boat steady despite feeling as if he is the waves of an ocean himself. You will be able to navigate your emotions with more maturity and wisdom in the future. Remember to be more compassionate and empathetic towards others. You likely have no idea what they are actually going through.
Querent: Seven of Swords
Did you engage in some sort of deceitful or underhanded behavior? Perhaps you were trying to avoid conflict or take the easy way out. You might have found yourself in a confusing situation. This Seven of Swords is illustrated in a way that appears to imply that someone here has been selfish.
Environment: Nine of Pentacles
Here, we see a lavishly dressed woman, holding an apple and a bird. She herself has all the tools she needs to succeed, such as the bowl of fruit on her head, which she uses to sustain herself. This card suggests that you have been financially stable and self-sufficient during this time. You have been able to enjoy the fruits of your labor and feel a sense of independence.
Hopes or Fears: The Chariot
This chariot card is illustrated imaginatively with a woman riding a snail-on-wheels. This card suggests that you have been focused on achieving your goals and moving forward in life. You are driving to succeed, and would like to do so quickly.
Outcome: Female King of Swords
This card suggests that you are powerful. No matter where you actually find yourself in the jungle gym hierarchies of family, friends, and colleagues, know that lead from wherever you are.
It sounds like you’ve been through quite a journey over the past six months, and I hope that you feel ready to move forward with confidence and clarity. Your future looks bright!

Pile 2

Significator card: “Immerse” in a dream-like calendar or book
Are you a person who likes planning? Perhaps consider “immersing” yourself by journaling out your thoughts about everything that has happened recently.
Astrology card: Saturn in Scorpio with “inheritance”
In terms of an event, “Saturn in scorpio” indicates a situation where you might be dealing with a literal inheritance. Perhaps you are the executor of a will. Or, you could be selling property on someone else’s behalf. Another interpretation of actions might be working long hours.
Saturn in Scorpio is a powerful astrological placement, representing a person with a lot of intensity and drive. People with this placement are often very ambitious and willing to take risks to achieve their goals. They have a lot of energy and are constantly looking for new challenges and adventures. However, they may struggle with impulsiveness and a tendency to feel superior to others. They may also have some health issues, and they may need to work on remaining calm and reflective.
I Ching: Hexagram 54 with “the marrying maiden”
This hexagram represents the coming together of two different forces or elements, and it typically symbolizes the formation of a new partnership or union. The hexagram suggests that when two opposing forces come together, they can create something new and powerful, just like a marriage. It can also suggest that there may be challenges or obstacles that need to be overcome to achieve this union, but the result will be worth it. Overall, Hexagram 54 speaks to the power of collaboration and partnership, and the potential for growth and transformation that can come from it.
Celtic Cross
Root: Knight of Pentacles
This card is illustrated as a woman dressed in flowers riding a horse made of leaves. Both represent plant-life which emerges from the ground. Perhaps you have been practical and grounded. You were focused on the details and worked steadily towards your goals.
Crossing: The High Priestess
The High Priestess points to some hidden knowledge or intuition that you tapped into. You were following your gut or your inner wisdom, and it has guided you through quite a journey.
Below: Six of Cups
In this card, a woman watches memories as if they are on film. In general, the six of cups represents nostalgia and/or innocent memories. Perhaps you have been reflecting on the past.
Past: Death
Big changes and transformations occurred for you over the last six months. Things ended, new beginnings emerged. Because of your astrology card and the temperance card following the death card, I am not going to rule out that some of you may have experienced an actual loss. If you have, I am sorry for your loss — whatever type of loss it was.
Above: Temperance
This is a beautiful card to follow “death”. A woman in a white dress is shaded by a pink overhand. She has a bird in each hand. One bird sits, looking at her, while the other takes off. Temperance suggests you find balance and moderation by navigating changes with grace and equilibrium.
Future: Page of Wands
This page of wands offers you his magnifying glass. Look for new opportunities, assistance, or adventures on the horizon.
Querent: Knight of Wands
The Knight of Wands is illustrated as a woman riding a horse while jumping through a hoop on fire. She represents a person who is active, adventurous, and full of energy. In the past six months, you have been courageous and were likely busy or “on the move”.
Environment: The Devil, reversed
You appear to have broken free from limitations and restrictions during this time. Perhaps you were pushing against societal expectations or breaking out of old patterns that were holding you back.
Hopes or Fears: Queen of Cups
The Queen of Cups suggests that your hopes and fears were tied to your emotional well-being and relationships. You wanted to feel connected and supported, but you were also worried about getting hurt or feeling isolated.
Outcome: The Emperor, reversed
The Emperor in the reversed position suggests that you may have struggled with authority or structure during this period. You were seeking to rebel or break free from established rules or expectations.
This spread tells quite a story, and it sounds like you’ve gone through some serious growth and transformation over the past six months. I’m glad I could be of assistance in helping you reflect on this wild ride.

Pile 3

Significator card: “Flow” with the moon
“Flow” here represents alignment with the universe and with the people, who surround you.
Astrology card: Mercury in Libra with “indecision”
Mercury’s communication, intellectual pursuits, and mental energy will be guided by Libra’s energy of balance, harmony, and diplomacy. People may be more prone to seek compromise and collaboration. However, you might have experienced a tendency to overanalyze or “people please”.
I Ching: Hexagram 17 with “following”
This hexagram describes a desire or need to follow or pursue something, whether that’s a goal, a person, or an idea. You felt the need to pursue something, but may have encountered obstacles or challenges along the way.
There is potential for growth and development here. Trust in your abilities and stay true to yourself. Overall, this hexagram speaks to the determination and persistence required to achieve one’s goals and the inner strength or self-knowledge necessary to stay the course.
Celtic Cross
Root: The Hierophant
The Hierophant suggests that your past six months have been heavily influenced by tradition, structure, and authority. You’ve been following the established path and conforming to societal norms. This card is illustrated almost like a picture book. A child sits in a tree where a large owl reads to them.
Crossing: Nine of Swords
This nine of swords is covered in eyes. She literally feels like everyone is watching her, or like all the eyes attached to her body represent the judgements of her actions by others. Have you been struggling with anxiety and stress? Perhaps you are struggling with adhering to a traditional or established path. There is significant self-doubt and inner turmoil in this situation.
Below: Four of Pentacles
In this illustration, a woman stands behind a locked fence of a fancy estate. The Four of Pentacles indicates a desire for security and stability, possibly at the expense of growth and expansion. You may have been holding on tightly to what you have and resisting change.
Past: Strength
Strength suggests that you’ve been developing inner strength and resilience during this time. You’ve been learning to face your fears and overcome obstacles. You have been your own pet lion.
Above: Justice, reversed
When justice is reversed, you may have been facing unfair treatment or a lack of justice in your environment. Is there a relationship in your life with an unequal power dynamic?
Future: Ten of Cups
This is a positive card, indicating a time of joy, contentment, and harmony in your future. It suggests that you will find emotional fulfillment and a sense of wholeness. Then Ten of Cups traditionally represents “home”.

Environment: Seven of Cups
This Seven of Cups is depicted with seven stars. Each star is a choice. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed by choices and options in your environment. There may be a sense of confusion and illusion, with many possibilities presenting themselves but none feeling quite right.
Hopes or Fears: Four of Wands
You want stability and celebration, possibly in the form of a happy home life or a successful project. However, your fears may be related to not achieving this stability or finding true contentment.
Outcome: Wheel of Fortune
This card represents the cyclical nature of life, and suggests that your future holds change and transformation. It could represent a new opportunity or a shift in circumstances, and emphasizes the importance of embracing change and going with the flow.
