Opinions

  • The author of "Tapping in the Dark" seems to convey a sense of waiting and the desire for change or a significant event, as suggested by phrases like "coming into a new misery" and the hope for "a new occasion."
  • The poem suggests a complex relationship with the familiar and the unknown, as it mentions "pretty alienation" and the fear associated with the "return" of something anticipated yet unnamed.
  • The use of the word "curse" indicates a possible negative view or frustration towards the repetitive nature of life or creativity, as it pertains to the theme of dance.

15 August 2020 Saturday Poetry Prompt: dance

Sure, shadows are great until you have to see anything. The cool recipients of the exhausted day. Still. This syrup will be here for a while and you can always chase the spot if the world won’t stand still. Won’t flatten out. Worn out, though. Well

coming into a new misery. No, I never used the word “mystery” before this. I’m not holding anything close to my chest. Not right now. Your pretty alienation saved me a spot in a large purple chair.

The return is soft, is feared at any rate. Hoping for a standstill of some sort. A new occasion. A new excuse for that dress. And then of course it’s not an excuse anymore at all. Just a frequent curse

tapping out the steps to a different dance.
