Tantalizing Tales Writers, do you have 100 Followers?
Here on Tantalizing Tales, we really value everyone who contributes, whether you are a new or experienced writer, or a valued reader.
One of the ways we try and demonstrate this is by working with the writer on each story submitted to make sure, when it is published, it’s the best it can be. That works well for not only the writer and the publication, but also the reader. We would never dream of putting a story out without first having proofed, edited or spoken with the writer. This way, we all get a better experience from every single tale added to the publication.
Recently, Medium have changed a few things. One is eligibility to their Partner Program and the other is how the writers on this program get paid. I will try and simplify this as much as possible.
The Medium Partner Program
This program enables writers to earn money from their work via Stripe. In the past, the amount of claps a story received contributed to the payout. But now it is the amount of time Members spend reading a story.
They have also introduced a referral program:
For every new reader that you convert to a paying Medium member, you’ll receive half of that new reader’s membership fee…
You can find your personalised referral link by going to settings and clicking on Audience Development.
NB: You do not have to be a member of Medium yourself to be part of the partner program and earn money.
However, membership only costs $5 a month and this lets you fly around medium as free as a bird and support the writers.
Tantalizing Tales Writers
Many of our writers are enrolled in the Medium Partner Program. But, some are not. Just as some of our writers are Medium Members, but others have not yet taken that monthly subscription step… And we don’t mind.
However, where earning is concerned, we would like all writers to have the opportunity to get a few dollars for their great work should they choose to. And this is where a new rule could affect some of our writers.
Nowadays, to join the Partner Program & earn, you first need to meet two eligibility requirements:
- Have at least 100 followers on Medium.
- Have published at least one story on Medium in the past.
If you are already in the partner program, you must meet the requirements by the end of the year.
I am aware that a few of our writers have not reached that milestone yet. Perhaps together we can help them?
If you write for Ttales and do not yet have 100 followers please leave a comment and I will add you to this article.
Supporting Writers
Highlighting: If you highlight a line here or there when viewing a story, you are also showing Medium that you are actually reading the story rather than just having clicked on the page and gone for a coffee. This means Medium will register that view for the writer.
Clapping: What do you lose by clapping fifty times for a story? Nothing, and the writer will feel valued. The claps are not paid now, so it is simply a way of showing your appreciation and encouragement.
Publications
There are many positives regarding submitting to publications and getting your story seen:
- Your work has a better chance of being seen as it will be promoted to your own individual followers and anyone who follows the magazine too.
- Often the publications are recommended across additional areas depending on what other member/readers have viewed before.
- Also, a publication can showcase your story on separate feature or tagged pages.
- On a publication, you also have the chance to be picked up by the Medium trending algorithm. This is basically based on the amount of views for your tale, but if your story is seen as trending, it should remain on a publication home page for longer.
Community Support
One of the great things about Medium is how many fab publications there are out there, and we think it is healthy to write for as many as you want to. But we would ask that if a story of yours is published on Tantalizing Tales that you follow our publication and check out a few of the latest stories. This is a great way of discovering what other writers/followers are up to.
Before we go — if you are reading this and do not have 100 followers yet, add your profile in the comment's section so people have a chance to click and follow you.
