Taming the Wild--Americans' Grooming Habits Unveiled

When it comes to personal care, the grooming habits of Americans reveal intriguing insights into their preferences regarding hair and body maintenance.
In a recent survey conducted by LawnStarter, over 1,000 adults across the United States were queried about their grooming routines, uncovering trends that are both revealing and, perhaps, somewhat startling in the realm of intimate care in 2024.
The Great Landscape: Key Perspectives
Evenly Split
Americans find themselves evenly divided when it comes to personal grooming: just over half (52%) prefer a groomed or smooth appearance, likening their body hair to either a "well-kept garden" (40.8%) or "foliage-free" (11.2%). The remainder (48%) opt to let nature take the wheel, describing their body hair as either "unbridled wilderness" (22.4%), a "desert with tumbleweeds" (16.9%), or simply unsightly (8.8%).
To Trim or Not to Trim
Slightly over 3 in 10 adults, representing the largest share, groom weekly, followed by those who groom daily, at 21.4%. Nearly 1 in 10 adults (9%) forgo grooming altogether.
In the Name of Love
Over 1 in 10 adults (11.7%) groom to please their partners.
Where the Wild Things Are
The face, armpits, and pubic area receive the most attention, almost equally (on average slightly over 57%). Meanwhile, adults largely neglect their backs, with 47.4% identifying this area as the "least regularly" groomed—perhaps due to the sparse hair in that region.
Groomer's Best Friend
The razor is the most popular hair removal tool (75.5%) in the toolkit, followed by the electric trimmer at 45.1%. Very few adults (3%) opt for laser treatment.
Personal Matter
Over 4 in 5 adults (81.1%) tread the do-it-yourself path when it comes to grooming. The majority (29.3%) of those who seek professional services, such as a barber or waxing salon, cited indulgence as their motive.
