Take a Picture — It Lasts Longer
An argument for less videos and more pictures
Have you been to a concert recently?
A lot is the same as it’s always been. The energy, the lights, the sweat. But one big thing has changed since ye olden days.
Phones.
Instead of paying attention to the sound waves hitting our eardrums or reveling in the reality that one of our FAVORITE artists is THIS CLOSE to us, we take out our phones and press record.
We watch the concert through a screen.
Could have done that at home.
Uh, Theo — how old are you?
I’m 37.
Too old to be cool, too young to be wise. But that is neither here nor there. I remember seeing Coldplay right after “Fix You” came out (which was before the iPhone came out).
But I’m no analog puritan. Not currently at least. I am as addicted to my phone as anyone these days.
Here’s my suggestion: a middle ground.
And this isn’t just for concerts but for life — less videos and more pictures. Don’t watch the whole thing recording on your tiny little screen but take advantage of the technology we have.
Simply take a picture. The best of both worlds.
It only takes a moment…but it lasts longer.
