Taiwan Responds to Elon Musk
Beijing claims self-managed Taiwan and pressures between the different sides have risen in the previous year.

Taiwan told tycoon Elon Musk that it was “not available to be purchased” after he said the island was essential for China, reports the BBC.
“Pay attention to me, Taiwan isn’t important for the PRC and it’s most certainly not available to be purchased!” said Unfamiliar Priest Joseph Wu on Musk’s X. At a business culmination this week, Musk contrasted Taiwan with Hawaii, considering it a “vital part” of China.

This week, China carried out routine air and naval exercises in and around Taiwan as a means of demonstrating its military might. Taiwan said it recognized over 40 Chinese military airplanes and around 10 boats in its waters.

This isn’t the first time Elon Musk, who has financial matters in China, has disturbed the Taiwanese government with his remarks. In October, he proposed that strains between Beijing and Taipei could be settled by giving China some command over Taiwan.
He said then, at that point, in a meeting with the Monetary Times, that he accepted the two legislatures could come to a “actually satisfactory” understanding.
China’s representative to the US commended Musk, however, his Taiwanese partner offered something almost identical to Wu — that opportunity “isn’t available to be purchased”.
