Summary

The author recounts a profound experience of shared nightmares with their mother, which through the lens of Carl Jung's dream interpretation, revealed significant psychological insights and a spiritual synchronicity that guided them through personal growth and mental health preservation.

Abstract

The author shares a personal story of a synchronistic event where both they and their mother experienced similar nightmares on the same night, just before the author's departure to study in the USA. The nightmares, involving the theme of the mother's death, were initially frightening and incomprehensible. However, years later, after learning Carl Jung's method of dream interpretation, the author gained insight into the symbolic meaning of the dreams. The dreams were understood to represent the author's internal struggle with their primitive psyche and the need to mature and face reality, as well as a warning to the mother not to follow a path of despair. This experience led to the author's dedication to dream therapy, which they practiced for 19 years, and a deeper understanding of the unconscious mind's role in daily life, emphasizing that coincidences are not random but reflect a deeper spiritual reality.

Opinions

  • The author believes in the significance of dreams as messages from the unconscious mind, which can provide guidance for mental health and personal development.

The story I am going to tell you will surely show you that amazing coincidences have a spiritual meaning as well as a psychological meaning that helps us pay attention to important details for the preservation of our mental health.

Can you believe my mother and I had a similar nightmare the same night and we both woke up shocked at the same time and told each other the nightmares we had?

At that time I didn’t know anything about the meaning of dreams and I was very scared by what happened. Since then I started looking for answers, but it took me a while to find the right answer.

This strange coincidence happened when I was 17-years-old and about to travel to the US to study English and live with my uncle and his family in California.

I was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but my parents were Greek. In the end, I ended up going to live in Greece after living for a while in the USA. I didn’t imagine that my life would change so much and I wouldn’t live in my country anymore after traveling to California.

The nightmare I had a few days before traveling was about my mother’s death and the nightmare she had the same night was also about her death.

However, she did not die. She lived on for many years. The meaning of her death in our dreams was symbolic.

The Meaning of This Intriguing Coincidence

I dreamed that my mother had died and I lived in my godmother’s apartment. However, my mother’s ghost was following me around and telling me to brush my teeth really well.

Then I held my mother’s ghost in my arms and sang a lullaby as if my mother were a baby.

I woke up very scared and saw that my mother woke up in the middle of the night like me because she also had a nightmare! I told her my nightmare, and she told me hers.

My mother dreamed that one of her friends (who had recently passed away at the time) called her and told her that she should go live with her where she was. However, my mother remembered that her friend was dead and refused to accept the invitation.

This was the first time I experienced the phenomenon of synchronicity.

It was obvious that these nightmares were very significant, but I could not understand their meaning at that time. Only many years later, when I learned to translate the meaning of dreams through the method discovered by Carl Jung, could I understand the messages they contained.

The mother in dreams represents the wild side of our brain, our initial consciousness that continues to be absurd as at the beginning of its appearance and continues to try to destroy our human conscience.

A dead person usually represents a part of our personality that cannot help us avoid imitating their example (if this part of our personality has a negative meaning) because we are already imitating their behavior.

I dreamed that my mother was dead because I was already being influenced by the primitive and wild part of my brain at that time.

The ghost in dreams represents neurosis. My mother was a ghost in my dream because the primitive part of my brain had generated a neurosis in my conscience.

Our teeth in dreams represent our psychic power. My mother’s ghost told me to brush my teeth well because she wanted to make me continue to enforce my desires.

My godmother represented a spiritual part of my personality that helped me be religious.

In the dream, I lived in my godmother’s apartment because my trip to the USA was the result of divine providence. I had to travel and become an adult, instead of living like a spoiled brat in Brazil.

It would be very dangerous for my mental health if I stayed in my country, where I was admired for my intelligence and my literary talent and where I was very lazy. I just wanted to read and write, nothing more. I hated housework…

I had to mature and learn to face reality in a place where I was unknown and my faults were condemned so that I had a chance to pay attention to the importance of the spiritual reality instead of being proud, aggressive, and lazy.

At the end of the dream, I was treating my mother’s ghost as if it were a baby because I was naive and didn’t understand how dangerous my neurosis was.

My mother’s nightmare was a warning, which showed her not to imitate her friend’s example. Her friend had died after committing suicide because she found out that her husband was cheating on her with another woman.

My mother was feeling very weak at that time because she was divorced and had to work very hard to pay for our expenses, whereas when she was married to my father she had a lot of money.

The nightmare she had warned her not to imitate her friend’s example, who ended her own life because she felt weak.

The coincidence of our nightmares on the same night indicated that the fact that I was going to live in the USA for a while would help me preserve my mental health and my mother would have the courage to continue living thanks to the relief she would have from not having to take care of me during my absence.

My uncle and aunt were very cold and didn’t spoil me like my mother. They made me understand many things and made me become more realistic. They also helped me not to be as lazy as I used to be.

I had to go through this experience to change my personality; otherwise, I would become schizophrenic like my father.

I could understand the explanation for the astonishing coincidence of our similar nightmares before traveling to the US as a teenager only when I turned 28-years-old, and I could also understand the severity of my mental illness. Fortunately, I was following dream therapy according to Carl Jung’s method.

Carl Jung’s method of dream interpretation helped me understand why I was so nervous and helped me calm down. I was very lucky because I managed to escape a severe mental illness.

After this victory, I cured several people through dream therapy for 19 years, while simplifying Carl Jung’s complicated method of dream interpretation into practice.

I studied for 6 months in California. Then I traveled to Greece, where I have many relatives because my parents were Greek. I returned to Brazil a year later.

However, I decided to go back to Greece and live permanently in Athens because there were a lot of social and financial problems in Brazil. We didn’t have any security, especially in Sao Paulo, my hometown.

What Does Synchronicity Mean?

Carl Jung discovered that certain coincidences have a deeper meaning and cannot be considered the result of pure chance. There is a reason these coincidences happen.

The unconscious mind that produces our dreams gives us symbolic messages not only in dream images but also in our daily lives. Strange coincidences reflect the intervention of divine providence.

Nothing in our world happens by chance. There are countless laws that we ignore, which regulate the functioning of our planet according to a predetermined plan.

The real reason why strange coincidences happen is more important than we could imagine based on humanity’s limited knowledge in our historical time.

There is a spiritual reality in addition to the material one.
