“The Writer’s Way to Weaving Words into Worlds”
Symbols and Illuminations on a Writer’s Journey- Chapter 7
The Writer’s Animal Totem- The Owl

The Owl is a symbol of wisdom, knowledge, wealth, prosperity, good luck, and fortune. While in some cultures owls are considered to be good luck, in others they bring bad luck. Whatever the symbolism of the owl maybe it is just a wonderful bird, who is living its own peaceful existence in life.
Over the last week, I have been thinking about owls and seeing images of owls. Perhaps this is a special message for me. I looked up the meaning of the owl and was pleased with the information I had found. As a writer, and storyteller new information always stimulates my mind and gets my writer mind working in high gear.

This morning I happened to find information on Animal Totems. This was while I was doing research into the meaning and the symbolism of owls. An animal totem was used by the native Americans who believed that every person was connected to one of nine spirit animals that would act as a guide for an individual through life.
A totem is a symbol of a tribe, family, clan, or an individual, a sacred being, or a spiritual object. The common animal figures found on totems are the wolf, the frog the bear, the beaver, the thunderbird, the killer whale, the eagle, and the raven. You should do further research into Spirit Animals if you are interested. You may also identify with or be drawn to a particular animal to choose as your personal totem in life.

As a writer, the totem of the owl as a spirit animal reminds us to tap into our intuition, where true wisdom lies.
As a personal totem, the owl provides guidance and inspiration and encourages us to explore the unknown, filled with its mysteries, magic, and metaphysical meanings in life. I am now certain that the owl is my personal totem as a writer, after having been drawn to the owl and after I saw this wonderful painting on Twitter today by Jessica May Art.
