‘Genius in a Bottle’ Prompted Writing Challenge
Sweet Stories
GiaB writing prompt #1

A writer is one who is thirsty to give life to language, and for whom, the thirst is never sated.
I understand being parched, and the need for parchment. I know what it is to be pent-up, and the relief of ideas penned down.
Genius in a Bottle (GiaB) offers the following nectar to wet your whistle.
We are so thrilled to introduce our ongoing writing challenge. Every fortnight, we will offer a thematic prompt, and challenge writers to produce a piece of poetry, fiction or non-fiction in response to the theme.
This challenge is extended to any writer on Medium, both existing writers of the publication and writers not yet among us.
Our fearless leader, Jay Squires, has determined that Wednesday will be ‘Prompt Day’ at GiaB. Prompts will be published at 9:00am Pacific Standard Time/ Pacific Daylight Time. Responses are welcomed at any time, however only responses submitted before the publishing of the next prompt will be considered for special honours and promotions.
Special Honours and Promotions
I know no reward can satisfy like immortalising thought and experience in letter and language, however it is only fair that we acknowledge exceptional writing here at GiaB.
Responders to the challenge will have their submissions published as per standard submission guidelines and with standard editing protocols. All wordsmiths who are not yet writers on our team, will be added to the GiaB writing team.
The top five submissions from established writers will have their pieces promoted on the next newsletter and through social media channels. A further five submissions from writers not on GiaB will be similarly promoted. Lastly, we know good writers consistently produce good writing, and we want to make sure that little known writers are supported, so a further five submissions from previously less promoted writers will receive the same promotions.
We will have a separate document that outlines the details and guidelines for prompt challenges, so please take a look at that here.
We will continue to update the information based on your questions, so please field your questions to us so we know what to provide for your benefit. We are always open to your feedback.
With that said, let us move on to the challenge.

The taste of your lips; all candy with a sweet rush. I’m salivating.
Whether it be at the end of a fine meal, or the beginning of a night of romance; whether it be to reward a well-behaved child or bribe a naughty adult, a sweet treat can be a slice of heaven.
The Challenge
We invite any writers to produce a piece of poetry, fiction or non-fiction on the topic of confectionery.
The Guidelines
Poetry is to be limited to 30 lines but can be in any style. Fiction and non-fiction submissions are to be capped at 750 words.
Please refer to the prompt in the subtitle. Feel free to copy this as a template: GiaB prompt # [insert prompt number and theme here].
When submitting, please ensure that one of the 5 tags is GiaBprompt. Please ensure a second tag is Poetry, fiction, or non-fiction, as appropriate.
We would like to become exposed to writers and pieces that you have enjoyed in all of Medium. Please tag up to ten writers whose pieces you have enjoyed recently, or who you feel may enjoy participating in this challenge.
For further information pertaining to the challenge, please refer to the rules and guidelines.
And away we go. We look forward to enjoying the paradise of the written word with you all.
