Sushi Chefs Are Food Artists
It’s not just raw fish. No, much, much more! Flavor, textures, and color!
These artists/ chefs have official titles. “Itamae” and “Shokunin”.
“Itamae” refers to a skilled sushi chef, while "Shokunin" simply means someone skilled at a profession.
Could you be your own sushi artist?
I have done this myself at home. Youtube has great videos on how to make sushi.
Sushi is easy and fun to make at home, and you can put all your favorite ingredients into your perfect custom roll!
What ingredients do I need to make sushi?
Just a few sushi-making staples:
- Sushi rice.
- Bamboo sushi mat.
- Plastic wrap (cling/saran wrap)
- Nori seaweed sheets.
- Low-sodium soy sauce.
- Toasted sesame seeds.
- Sriracha.
- Wasabi + pickled ginger.
Google “Sushi Kit Walmart” and a lot of cool stuff will pop up.
Sushi-Grade Fish
Is grocery store fish safe for sushi?
I made my sushi with raw fish from a grocery store. Just look for the best, freshest fish and ask the person behind the counter, which is freshest.
You may also see fish labeled as “sushi grade,” “sashimi grade,” or “for raw consumption.”
For some inspiration, I am including this fun video. Thanks for reading!
