Supposing Dawn
“The Writing Cooperative and Chalkboard Magnet Poetry Prompt”

While fireflies bleed golden light
Which covers this Midori night
Diffusing black to silver turned
And peddle silent woken morn
And midnight strikes tomorrow till
Whispering dissolves distills
Cloaking vulnerability
In shades and shadows thoroughly
Even as the last day longs
For new song sung, continued dawn
To travel past divide of night
Despite embrace of sweet moonlight
Revealing truths confusion shifts
As darkness breathes, escapes and lifts
Light’s too bright melody does fill
And overwhelms souls need instills
It’s white hot light lacks subtlety
Revealing life’s song utterly
Too much, too soon, no pause for wonder
Distance shifts, dimensions shudder
To awaken empty faces
Feathered kissed in sleep soft places
Eyelash gentle fluttering
The soul returned recovering
Dawn birthed shields fear and discovers
Half woke heart control surrenders
Seeking sought soul searches stays
And so enlivens a new day

Poems Used
The poems I selected for this challenge were both written by one of my favorite poets not just on Medium but anywhere, Jun Wu. The two works I chose were What I Lack in a Song and Suppose. Some words I used in the exact form in which they are found in the original poems while others I changed the form of to better fit the rhythm and meaning I intended.
Natalie Frank (Taye Carrol) has had work featured in Haunted Waters Press, Weirdbook Magazine, Siren’s Call Publications, Lycan Valley Press and Zero Fiction among others. Her poetry has been featured a several anthologies. She is the Managing Editor for Novellas and Serials at LVP Publications.
