At the start of my Medium journey, I tried an experiment. For the first ten days, I focused only on writing without following anyone, hoping my articles would go viral. The result? Just two followers and no reads.

Learning from some articles, I realized the power of following others. With around a million users, expecting them to follow you without engaging isn’t the best approach. After comparing my stats from December to January, the message was loud and clear – following more people boost followers and visibility on Medium. This strategy made a significant difference for me.

2. Clap for others:

Ensure your stories reach your loyal audience by sending them directly to your email subscribers. Don’t let them miss out on your best content. To do this, click more on your stories; you’ll find the button to send it to your email subscribers. Keep your readers in the loop by following this simple step.

Consider the timing when sharing your stories. Being in Australia, I often post at night since many Medium members are from the US. Keep in mind the time zones while posting on Medium

When you share your articles in a publication, opt for the ones with fewer followers. This boosts your chances of reaching a broader audience. If you choose a more extensive publication, there’s a risk your article might get lost in the shuffle and won’t attract as many viewers.

Explore the potential of Reddit to give your Medium stories a boost. Please share them in relevant subreddits like r/Medium and r/MediumApp. Reddit has been a secret weapon for me, bringing a significant amount of Medium member traffic directly to my stories.

You can experiment with platforms like LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Twitter, although they haven’t been as impactful for me. Check out these social avenues for broader exposure.

9. Think About Friend of Medium:

Consider getting a Friend of Medium subscription. It’s unnecessary but can boost your earnings and offer cool perks. I am not subscribed to it ( I’m subscribed to a regular subscription), but you can go for it if you already have many followers and readers.

10. Titles and Pics Matter:

Make your Medium stories stand out with exciting titles and good pictures. This gets more people to read. Use 4 – 5 images in each article, but make sure they match what you’re writing about. And most importantly, be honest with your titles – don’t use clickbait. This is all about making your stories exciting and accurate for your readers.

11. Pick the Right Tags:

Think of tags as labels for your Medium articles – pick them wisely. This ensures your story reaches the right audience. Medium allows you to use five tags per article, so use them all wisely. It’s the key to ensuring your stories get noticed by those who’ll enjoy them.

12. Quality over Quantity:

Write stories that leave an impact, not just a bunch. Consistently share, but ensure each one is outstanding. Pin your best story for that added visibility. Focus on delivering quality over quantity.
