Super Bowl Alert for Wives and Girlfriends: An Excuse to Hide His Infidelity

Cheating men often use what I call the “Super Bowl excuse” to hide their affairs.

This is something I discovered while researching my first infidelity book almost 20 years ago.

I still find it surprising that after all these years no one else has bothered to point this out.

“Watching the Super Bowl game with the guys” is being used as an alibi by cheating husbands and boyfriends to cover up a Super Bowl Sunday lover’s rendezvous.

It’s a plausible way for a cheater to account for a 4-hour block of time away from home that’s unlikely to be questioned by a wife or girlfriend — especially if she’s not a football fan.

It would probably never occur to her that instead of watching the Super Bowl game, he’s hooking up with his mistress behind her back.

It’s such a believable alibi that a “Super Bowl cheater” will never get caught unless his wife or girlfriend knows what to look for and how to short-circuit his plan.
