Abstract

The article titled "Sunken Cost Bias" delves into the personal struggle of the author who, despite facing continuous interruptions and invalidation, strives for emotional healing. The narrative reveals the author's realization that the financial costs incurred in this journey are secondary to their emotional and physical health, as symbolized by the phrase "錢財身外物" (money is an external matter). The author uses the metaphor of a thousand sunsets to convey the passage of time and the repeated attempts at healing. The piece also serves as a poem prompt, inviting readers to reflect on their own experiences of letting go or acceptance. It concludes with a mention of self-care practices, referencing a character named Lucy, and provides links to other related poems.

Sunken Cost Bias

To remind myself of my values

A thousand sunsets have come and gone — I thought I was ready to speak.

I thought I was ready to begin again the process and journey to healing.

I once again experienced that invalidation imposition interruption — the constant interruptions — before I could even finish one sentence.

One sentence was all I wanted to get out.

This has been such a costly endeavour, but I look to the sunrise — 錢財身外物 — that money I lost is external to my physical and emotional well-being.

To remind myself that I should pull out this circus before the entrenched traumas dug last I reached out to a helping hand are dug deeper.
