Summertime at the Homeless Shelter Was Great, and I Saw Free Baseball Games

Too bad the games had to end

It was a beautiful summer afternoon in Minneapolis. I was walking out of the Transitional housing Facility where I was staying. The lady at the desk talked me into accepting a free ticket to the Twins game.

I hooked up with a couple of neighbors, and one of them had a bottle of vodka. We walked a few blocks to the stadium. We had nosebleed seats that killed my bad knees.

It was a nice evening, I enjoyed the game

I had the best time. I hadn’t been to a Major League Baseball game since I left Fort Worth Texas in the late 1980s. I watched the game and headed back to the shelter when it was over.

I went to another game a few weeks later. I went by myself. I didn’t drink at all. I could not afford the concession stands. It didn’t matter. It was fun.

The free tickets lasted until the Twins had a winning streak. Tickets became a hot commodity. One of the residents used the shelter computer room to scalp his ticket.

Somebody always has to ruin a good thing

The Twins I.T people traced the IP address. That ended the free Baseball games. When I wasn’t watching Baseball, I stayed out of my room as much as possible.

My Psychotherapist wanted me to get out more and socialize. She also thought the fresh air would do me good. I would spend hours outside on a bench in the park by the shelter.

I would kill time outside, then I would go to my room and nap

If I sat on a certain bench, I could get a WIFI signal. I would chat with Olivia and post on Facebook and Twitter. I would also enjoy the view.

The park benches were great places to watch the pretty women walk by. I would watch and take pictures with my phone. I must have deleted those pictures after Olivia and I grew serious.

Most everything would be closed, but lots of people walking around

I can’t find the pictures, and that’s just as well. The best part of summer weekends for me was Sundays. Most of the businesses were closed. There would be people walking around enjoying the weather.

In the mornings there was a Saxophonist on a corner playing smooth Jazz. It was so mellow and stress-free. I would like to visit Minneapolis again.

I would like to visit and show my wife around

I would like to show Olivia the city. We could walk the streets and the Skyways. We could also see a Baseball game. Minneapolis is worth a visit, but I never want to live there again.

The winters are too cold.
