Summertime
A Summer Poem

From a prompt by Marla Bishop and Sherry McGuinn. My take on Summertime, from a time, way back when.
Leaning on a stickball bat dreaming of hitting like Ruth; Pulling the hat down on the midday sun. Life is great, life is fun like a trot around the bases when I hit a home run.
Sitting on the stoop talking with friends; Watching the cars whiz past laughing at the tales being spun.
Summertime blues, don’t you come round. Don’t wanna hear your bullshit, don’t be messing around.
Cool sweat running down my face,
the heart of the city beating, like in us kids as we race, from hydrant to car, you’re it I’m out,
Summertime’s a cool Italian ice, a soda pop, a secret glance. A whisper to a friend, as she smiles at your face
A hope-filled tomorrow a world that’s in line, Summertime, make me a promise That you’ll always be mine.
I’m adding in the same tags as Sherry and maybe a few of my own.
