Summer Solstice 2020

Raindrops fell with staccato beats
Frogs croaked in rhymes
Leaves clapping in papaya trees
No birds singing
Ripples formed where the rains fell
Beating down on lakes and rivers
Spreading across the water
Disappearing into nothingness
Tropical winds chased away the clouds
Thunders voiced disapproval
With lightning flashes in applause
The longest day came and went
As darkness intruded the day with gloom
Devouring the sun as it waxed
Consuming it completely but for a glow
Shades covered the earth
Bringing forth a moment of night
Holding hostage the sunlight
All was about lost
But for the hope of promise divine
Suddenly, a silent shout burst the air
As the light broke free and fast
Darkness cannot contain the light
Retreating as the light expanded
To come again I am sure
Blue skies emerged in the cosmos
Summer birds now filled the air
With songs of joy and love
Frogs joined with sounds in symphony
The leaves rustled their silent taps
The rains stopped
The passing breeze gathered all the sounds
Setting them to jingles and rhymes
Happiness broke forth in musical tunes
Joy sprang forth to return to my heart
Making light the pain from fears and hurt
Summertime had returned
Restoring hope and cheer
A new dawn beckoned
A new beginning
A new cycle continued
Bringing new promises
And the hope of
New days and new tomorrows
With new opportunities
Starting today.
