Trip

Live In The Moment And Cherish What You Have

Summer Is Here In Vancouver, Let’s Go To Cleveland Dam

The rainy season seems to be particularly long in Vancouver this year. In the blink of an eye, it is May, and summer is still looming.

Until Victory Day (May 23), when I opened the windows in the morning, the oncoming breeze brought a hint of warmth.

Looking around, the grayness has been swept away, the sun was shining, and the sky was blue. They all laughed and told me that summer was here.

How can you stay at home in such good weather?

We decided to go to the long-awaited Cleveland Dam in North Vancouver.

After driving for more than half an hour, we reached our destination. No wonder that the parking lot was full. No one wanted to miss the nice weather.

Luckily, we found a parking spot in the shade on the side of the road. There was a sign on the lawn by the road that said, Cleveland Park.

Not long after walking along the road, the scenery in front of us immediately caught our eyes.

The snow-capped mountains in the distance, the white clouds in the sky, and the large greenery on the ground constitute a pleasing picture.

People were gathering on the lawn, some were having a picnic, some children were playing ball, and some were taking a stroll.

We took a few more steps and the Capilano Lake was in full view which is as beautiful as the picture we saw online.

Where is Cleveland Dam?

Following the signs, we came to a bridge, which was blocked on both sides by barbed wire fences that are as high as about two persons.

The Cleveland Dam was built in 1954 and blocks Capilano Lake which supplies fresh drinking water to the Lower Mainland.

It turned out that such a high barbed wire was built to keep the water clean.

When we were worried about how to take pictures, we found that there are small holes in the barbed wire wall at intervals, the size is just enough to fit a mobile phone. Looks like it is specially set up for tourists to take pictures. How nice and heart-warming!

Despite seeing pictures of the dam online, we were still impressed by its grandeur. Such a huge drop, presumably how magnificent it will be when the water is released, unconsciously reminds me of a poem, the water of the Yellow River comes from the sky. . .

On the way back, we passed the lawn again, and inadvertently I saw the words carved on a bench. This bench is in memory of a man named K who used to love to run in this park.

I took a closer look at the dates, 1973–2019, and he was only 46 years old when he passed away. So young?

I couldn’t help but stop and look up at the blue sky and white clouds. The surrounding scenery is so fascinating and people are so cheerful. At this moment, I am enjoying the sunshine and life just like them.

Sometimes you never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

I think I will often come to Cleveland park to see the magnificence of the dam, appreciate the calm and gentleness of the lake, and sit on a bench to experience the joy of relaxation.

As I wrote this, the bad news came that there has been a shooting in a small town in Texas, USA, where a friend of mine lives, and an 18-year-old boy attacked an elementary school in the town. 21 people have been confirmed dead, 19 children and 2 teachers.

What a tragedy!

Life is too short to live and be kind to those who love you and those you love.
