Suicidal Snails
I Turn Them Around

After the rain many snails head into traffic I turn them around
It never fails. Well it sometimes fails, but more often than not it doesn’t. After the rain, snails are all gripped by wanderlust and set out to see the world. Seeing the world often includes crossing the busy, tarmacked, 45 MPH’ed road. Ah, death, that.
So, good Buddhist that I am, when I see one of these little critters slither his or her way toward certain death I stop and bend over and gently, very gently grab his or her shell slash home and as gently lift to soon return it to earth farther from the road and pointing in the other direction: “This way, little buddy. Stay alive. Enjoy the day.”
