Becoming Successful Isn’t a Straight Line but a Jumble
Success doesn’t come easy.
I know you know that. But success also doesn’t come the way you expect it to be. Did you know that?
When I studied, I dreamed of becoming a remote worker.
I had this bold idea to work wherever and whenever I wanted.
(Yes, even before COVID.)
I couldn’t stand sitting in an office anymore. Things needed to change.
What did I do?
I finished my studies, booked the next flight, and flew to Bali. Ready to become a remote worker, no even better: a digital nomad.
What happened?
I did nothing, spent almost all my savings, came back, and had no idea what to do. What do you, do when you don’t know what to do?
Yes, you turn to alcohol. But not the way you were thinking.
I started working in a bar.
I had a good time. But it wasn’t worthwhile, because I was thinking:
“Man, you got a B. Sc. in Business Informatics, you’re wasting your life here.”
What did I do?
I hopped on LinkedIn, found a cool job in London, and applied.
Within three weeks, I was moving from Germany to the UK to start working as a recruitment consultant. Little did I know, I’d hate selling to others.
What happened?
I had the best office time of my life and met amazing people, but sales felt like hell. Only when things started looking a bit brighter, everything changed yet again.
COVID came around.
What did I do?
Within days I moved back to Germany, in with my parents, and felt like a complete loser.
Yes, I still got my degree, but had no intention of using it.
And yet again, I didn’t have a job. Let alone a worthwhile one.
What happened?
At this exact moment, I remembered my dream from a couple years ago.
Working remotely.
I remembered there was still an Upwork account, I once created full of hopes.
What did I do?
I hopped on there, improved my profile, and started doing the one thing, that stuck with me from my job in London.
Outreach.
Within 3 weeks I landed a client.
And that’s how I met my version of success.
