Substack Isn’t Going So Well for Me
And it’s all my fault!

I pride myself on being technologically able.
I have completed a Film and Television Production degree. I worked with computers from the time they became “mainstream”. I’ve moderated various forums and I’ve always been one of the first teachers in any of my workplaces to embrace and utilise new technology in the classroom.
I get frustrated when younger people assume that I don’t know what I am doing. Especially when, in my experience, I know more than they do about some aspects of working online.
I decided last year to check out Substack. I really want to be able to get paid more for my writing and Medium is not a consistent income stream for me. I’ve really only had one story that has been financially successful and then only moderately so.
After some messing around with ideas for newsletters, I settled on one I liked. Of course, this was around the same time that I returned to full-time work.

It was probably an error to plan a new venture at this particular point in time, but I am often driven by my heart before my head can stop spontaneous action.
I started sending out some tweets to promote the idea and got a couple of subscribers. During this process two errors became apparent.
I have two substack pages… by accident. One is “Jane Grows Garden Rooms” and the other is “Tongues in Trees”. The second is my base for the newsletter.
When I was sending out tweets to promote the newsletter I didn’t realise that there were two. One tweet was sent from the wrong page and now I have two subscribers on the wrong list! Argh!
I’m still figuring out how to rectify this final error before the newsletter officially launches.
Should I email them with embarrassing honesty?
What do you think? Will that damage my credibility?
And now… you knew it was coming…
Shameless (mostly) self-promotion…
Let me tell you about the newsletter:
