Summary

The Book Mechanic is no longer accepting submissions from other writers due to a significant drop in Medium traffic and the publication's demand on the editor's time.

Abstract

The editor of the Book Mechanic, a Medium publication, has announced the cessation of accepting new stories or writers. This decision comes as a response to the substantial amount of time the publication requires and a noticeable decline in traffic from Medium. Although the publication is pausing collaborative efforts, the editor, August Birch, will continue to write and publish content under the Book Mechanic brand. Past contributors are acknowledged for their hard work, and their stories will remain part of the publication.

Opinions

  • The editor values the contributions of past writers and has decided to keep their stories active within the publication.
  • The editor has observed a dramatic drop in traffic from Medium, which has influenced the decision to halt external submissions.
  • The time investment required to run the publication is significant, leading the editor to focus efforts elsewhere for the foreseeable future.
  • Despite the pause on accepting new submissions, the editor remains committed to the Book Mechanic and will continue personal contributions to the publication.

No Longer Taking Submissions for the Book Mechanic

I am no longer accepting new stories from other writers, nor am I accepting any new writers. All current writers have been deactivated from submitting new stories.

If you have written for me in the past, I appreciate your hard work. None of your stories will be removed.

I have decided to pump the brakes on running this Medium publication. The publication has taken a large amount of my time and the traffic generated from Medium has dropped dramatically, so I’ve felt it best to focus more of my efforts elsewhere.

I will continue to write an publish on Medium under the Book Mechanic umbrella, but for the foreseeable future I will not be accepting the work of other writers.

Thank you for your understanding.
