Summary

The undefined website announces the acceptance of short form story submissions for a new feature called "Tuesday Takeaways" within the Daily Justiss publication, aiming to provide additional publishing opportunities and community engagement for writers on Medium.

Abstract

The undefined website content reveals that writers on Medium who specialize in short form stories now have another avenue to get their work published. The Daily Justiss publication has introduced "Tuesday Takeaways," a weekly feature designed to alleviate the submission pressure on the existing Short Form publication. This initiative, spearheaded by the publication's head, offers writers a chance to have their short form stories published every Tuesday, with the expectation that these stories will not only promote their own work but also highlight and uplift other writers' stories. The feature encourages a collaborative and relational approach to writing and publishing on Medium, with a focus on crafting effective story takeaways that can enhance readership and earnings. While traditional editorial support is not provided, the publication head commits to reading submissions, editing for typos, ensuring timely publication, and providing feedback. The guidelines for submission are clear, with a strict 150-word limit and a mandatory tag of "short form stories," alongside one additional publication-specific tag. The process for submitting to the Daily Justiss publication is straightforward, and writers are encouraged to engage with the community and support each other's work.

SUBMISSIONS Currently Being Accepted for Short Form Stories

Do you want another awesome publication to send your short form stories to?

Good news is here, for all those writers on Medium who love the short form style of writing. Do you love the Short Form publication, but wish there was another alternative for this style of writing.

The editors on the current Short Form publication are obviously hard workers, and they are constantly busy, trying to cater to such a huge audience.

Being my usual self, I’m always coming up with bright ideas on how to fulfill a growing need. As much as I love submitting to the Short Form, I don’t like to have to wait to get published, even though I know that’s unreasonable of me.

So I figured out a workaround. I added a new feature to my Daily Justiss publication. I call it Tuesday Takeaways.

This is how I plan to help pick up some of the slack, by publishing short form stories, and hopefully, give writers an additional option.

Why am I calling the publication the “Takeaway”

First of all, I don’t want to jump in over my head, that’s why I decided not to try and create a whole other publication.

By making this a feature of my existing publication, the added activities shouldn’t interfere too much with my already busy schedule.

Since I’m only accepting stories ONE DAY a week, that should keep me busy enough to help a few folks, but not so swamped, that I want to run and hide.

About the name of the Feature

The reason I named the feature Tuesday “Takeaways” is because all our stories typically have that final section at the end. We all include it, whether we call it the takeaway, final thoughts, reminders, summary, or we simply label it as “conclusion”.

This section of a story is a crucial part, but not everyone gets it right. I wrote a story a while back, talking about how many writers fail to write the best kind of takeaway that can benefit their read time and their earnings.

My publication feature is designed to help writers get better and better at creating more effective story takeaways for all their future stories. At the same time, they’ll be able to promote their longer stories, by pointing to them, via their short form submissions.

Expectations for the Stories

One thing that I’m trying to encourage for the short form stories I accept, is that you not just give your own stories a lift, but that writers help to lift up other writers and their stories.

That means, if you read a really great story and you want to write about it and tell us on Tuesday Takeaways, go for it!

I believe this is one way for us to be more relational (just like Medium wants), and it can help us build better connections among the writers — and readers — in the community. Here’s how we can achieve this goal:

  • The stories should ALL perform like a GPS tracking system, and lead readers to a full length story (yours or someone else’s) with all the related details.
  • Stories in Tuesday Takeaways should offer an interesting statement or point of view about the topic, enough to draw the reader’s interest.
  • One way you can chose to craft a great story for Tuesday Takeaways is to provide thought provoking questions about the topic, while the actual story it points to will provides the answers.

Expectations for this publication feature

Needless to say, because this is a new feature, I can’t offer any guarantees about exposure and readership.

I can, however, let you know what I can and will provide for you, as head of this publication. While you should not expect a traditional editor or any help modifying your stories, you can expect to receive my full support.

Here’s what you can expect as a writer for the Tuesday Takeaways feature:

  • As the publication head, I’ll read your stories, and only edit any glaring typos or errors, nothing else.
  • If you fail to use the “short form stories” TAG, I’ll need to swap one of your selected tags out.
  • I’ll make sure all submissions are published before the end of Tuesday (aka: 8pm PST). [FOR NOW, feel free to submit previously published short form stories that meet the requirements]
  • After publishing stories, I’ll provide meaningful FEEDBACK (claps, comments, mentions)
  • The first day it is published, your story will ALWAYS get front page exposure in the Tuesday Takeaways section of the publication.

Guidelines for The Takeaway short form publication feature

The short form style of writing is easy and simple to get used to. Personally, I’m discovering that writing this tight and concise is actually easier than I realized.

The same guidelines that you’re already used to will apply for your story submissions to Daily Justiss (Tuesday Takeaways feature). That means:

  • All stories must follow the Medium Guidelines.
  • The MAXIMUM word count is 150 words. If you’re unsure, you can view the word count while you’re in draft mode by pressing Ctrl+a.

NOTE: Your title and subtitle count as part of the word limit, and so do the words in your image credit

MANDATORY TAG: “short form stories” [This tag is required]

  • You may also use no more than ONE of my suggested publication Tags below, so your story can display properly.

FYI: Tags for this publication are: Current Events | Healthy Living | Life Lessons | Productivity Tips | Writing

  • Be sure to honor all rules regarding giving credit for images.
  • Do some self-editing and make sure to check for typos, poor grammar and any other errors.

How to Submit to The DAILY JUSTISS publication

There’s nothing new under the sun, not really, so the submission rules are pretty much the same as they are for other publications.

  • Follow the publication so the title shows up in your list
  • Submit by putting your username in a RESPONSE and the words “Add Me” [You can do it on this page in the comments section]
  • Once you’re added as a writer, click “add to publication” when submitting your stories for review.
  • You can SUBMIT ANYTIME, but no stories will be published before Tuesday, even if you send it early.
  • I will definitely send a response to notify writers when they’ve been added (if no where else but on your profile page).
  • I will try to answer all responses, to confirm your story was received, but in case I miss the announcement and don’t respond, your story will still be published if you’ve been added as a writer.

Remember, we want to have the best relational publication possible

That means we must all stay connected with fellow fans and followers on the publication. I’m a HUGE fan of both self promotion AND support of others.

You’ll find that helping and motivating others can have a powerful affect. That has always been my experience. In fact, there is no way you can genuinely try to help someone else, without it resulting in something positive for you, even though that was never your original motive.

So enjoy writing and submitting your short form stories, and don’t miss out on opportunities to help elevate yourself and other writers, by promoting your stories in Tuesday Takeaways.
