Studying in the US with tuition waiver and monthly stipend — Du học Mỹ — Miễn học phí, nhận lương hằng tháng |
Vietnamese below.
With a simple syntax on search engine sites: your major + “Graduate” + “assistantship,” you can easily find hundreds of fully-funded financial aids for your graduate program in the US.
The financial aid is called a Graduate teaching/research assistantship, which supports you with a partial/full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend, normally within nine months of an academic year term. Typically, public schools such as state universities often offer these assistantships, allowing you to assist professors in teaching, such as grading and attendance checks, instructing a session/class, or helping in research (e.g., literature review). The assignments are usually light and do not impact your study. Many professors are willing to let you do and prioritize your coursework and research. Thus, you do not need to worry. Instead, you have a perfect opportunity to have experience in teaching and conducting research, as well as working and learning from knowledgeable professors in your field.

The application for this assistantship is not very competitive unnecessarily compared to scholarships from many governments, while offering you generous funds, not only for your study but also for conference travels. Required documents are also basic and simple, including a CV, a statement of purpose (or a personal statement), three letters of recommendation, a minimum degree (e.g., Bachelor’s), and an English certificate. Many schools or majors will ask you about working experiences and portfolios.
You should search to see their criteria, required application, and process. You also need to choose the program based on its curricula, professors, research focus, and how much financial aid they can support you regarding months of stipend, how many credits you are waived for the fees, and health insurance coverage. Many schools, like my previous school, Kansas State University, support 75% of health insurance plans, which is really expensive in the US.
So, start working on your application now and apply by this December to secure a slot in graduate schools next Fall!
