Stretch Marks Are Sexy, People Need To Accept Themselves And Rejoice
It was a beautiful evening spent with a dear friend of mine when she was talking about her weight loss journey using the Ketosis Diet. I was amazed at the results and congratulated her. But afterward, her smile turned into a frown when she told me that she now has stretch marks on her thighs.
I was confused, to why she was frowning upon that fact. So I asked her why is she sad. She later told me that “people” dislike stretch marks. I stopped her right there and said: “what are you even saying — Stretch marks are like battle scars” they are indeed attractive. I reassured her that it was nothing to worry about, though she insisted that there is an entire stigma towards the body positivity and thus I felt it eerie to why would people even do that.
But then again, society is influenced by the fashion industry and the “social-media” influencers so there was that. I assured my lovely friend, that there is nothing wrong with having stretch marks or freckles — they are a part of you, and you should accept them as they make you who you are and tell a tale of another time.
A struggle, and hardship that you went through to get them, they are perhaps battle scars of either losing weight or giving birth. No one should feel ashamed by having scars. It is nothing something that you should hide, wear them proudly — I told her which brought a smile to her face and Indeed gave her the tenacity to accept her self and focus on self-love and care.
I came back home, thus I thought it best to search how much women were being influenced by these kinds of stigmas and it’s a lot.
Even I have stretch marks — And I’m a Guy, and perfectly all right with having them, then what’s the fuss all about.
I later on understood as this kind of mindset is thrown by the many brands and marketing agencies as to sell something to women, whose self-esteem they shatter with their photoshopped models and their way of talking about body positivity. Social media influencers are the new generation of marketers, and as Seth Godin in his book stated: “All marketers are liars.”
Every influencer sets to pitch something to their mass following whether it be a cosmetic, or an accessory — at most times due to the proper lighting and how they shoot their videos, the editing and filtering out everything to look a certain away is deeply singed into the minds of young teens who are still fairly growing up.
They target customers and consumers that way, the modern-day era is filled with agencies that come up with lucrative ways to sell products thus they target people, who later market their products due to the mass following they have garnered. It has taken out, the hassle of looking for advertising agencies, and thus use social media, outlets to do the dirty work for them.
And this leaves young women and men fall prey to such kinds of manipulations. They start to believe less of themselves, as their entire clique is following a specific influencer — so the feelings of depression, roam around and it causes a lot of damage to the self-esteem and young minds needing validation for themselves.
When talking about attraction and attractiveness, I will be honest most models don’t even come close to being the symbol of attraction. Self Acclaimed Physical features can never come close to a person’s character, and their wonderful personality. Everything wrong with the modern-day society has been influenced by the movies, soap operas, films, and even the magazines they read.
All of these images have stirred a sense of dilemma in the hearts of young men and women to look a certain way, to please others. But they stop working on the things that need their attention such as their sense of self and vice-versa.
For me, I never daddle in these silly schemes of putting myself in such a low place, just because a person came on the 5 second commercial with rock hard abs, “stay fit and buy our energy drink” etc.. This sort of advertisements can work on simpler minds, but not mine as I never really cared for these silly things, and neither should you.
I have been told even as a man at times that I’m getting fat, even by women. Some women have said to the lengths that “women won’t find me attractive.” Though, these sorts of comments are funny and amusing. When you get these 24/7 — they can be a handful. I know the feeling, but you can shut them up as well. Or just accept yourself, people’s sentiments towards your physique or your self shouldn’t matter.
Accept yourself, because you have to as you are your prime motivator and friend.
I get judged daily, I never let it affect me. Why should you, we all have stretch marks. People might define their self worth by other people’s opinion, you shouldn’t. As you need to value yourself and respect your body and treat it well. A positive mindset matters, you will find negativity everywhere — someplace more than not. It is you who should care for yourself, and you only decide to not let others affect you this way.
There is a reason why stretch marks are perhaps attractive to me, as they tell me a story of the struggle of how you persevered. When you lose weight or even give birth these activities take a toll on your body. You need to love yourself even more, and not let other people’s opinions affect you. It is your body and your journey engraved in those stretch marks. Don’t let them be defined as a stigma, instead wear them proudly. It doesn’t matter what “they” think.
I even have a multitude of them on the body either through wounds or weight loss. I never let them become something so insignificant that they become a joke for others to make. They are my pride, as they are yours as well.
I even am sometimes surprised as to how beautiful they look. I get them from time to time. I never worry, though sometimes it gets annoying when they are fresh as the redness can be a pain to deal with, all these marks and scars fade.
They tell a story, your story — so tell it, how you got them and what you had to go through to get them. I got my first stretch marks perhaps when I did Keto a few years ago. And I have been happy ever since it’s like checking something off of my list. We should let ourselves rejoice the moment, if you are reading this, know that having stretch marks are normal.
You are beautiful with them if you accept your self, and your entire self and love it — then perhaps you’re one of the most perfect of creatures that roam this majestic earth — Be You!
Thank you for reading.
Stay Blessed and Stay Safe!
