Strelitzia Welcome
Summer Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Shine!”
Parading my shiny colours — welcome home!
I relocated 12 days ago to São Paulo to start a new job. Who welcomed me to my new apartment? A Strelitzia reginae flower, shining brightly, parading its colour for everyone to see.
A Strelitzia flower, also known as a bird of paradise flower, is the national flower of South Africa, my country of birth. The shine from the flower spread to me and made me smile, almost as brightly as the Strelitzia in the photo.
It whispered to me: “Welcome — home is where you want it to be!” I wrote the Tricube poem “Strelitzia Shine” below in gratitude for the radiant beauty welcoming me to my new apartment in São Paulo.
Strelitzia Shine
Parading; orange grace, rainbow glow.
Sassy chique; swaying style, cheeky charm.
Paradise; shining star. Welcome home!
Thank you, Mary Chang Story Writer, for this wonderful summer prompt.
