Strawberry And Almond Crumble
Make the most of a bumper harvest with this delicious dessert that smells as good as it tastes
Ingredients
filling
1 1/2lb/ 750g strawberries Fresh or frozen (frozen don’t need to be defrosted before use)
2 oz/50g sugar
teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, but gives a richer flavour)
topping
4 oz/ 125g plain white flour
3 oz/75g sugar
3 oz/75g butter (softened)
2 oz / 50 g flaked almonds
Method
1. If large fresh strawberries are used, cut in halves.
2. Place hulled strawberries in a wide, shallow oven proof dish.
3. Sprinkle with sugar and vanilla extract.
4. Rub butter into sugar and flour.
5. Stir in flaked almonds.
6. Sprinkle topping over strawberries.
7. Bake in a medium oven for approx. 30 mins.
8. Serve warm, directly from the baking dish with cream, custard or ice cream.
If the strawberries are sharp tasting or you have a sweet tooth, increase the quantity of sugar.
