Strangest Thing I Saw in the Sea

Six Word Photo Story: Freestyle

She was abandoned. Left to drown.

Nobody was on board when I discovered her. The beautiful boat was stranded — barely hanging onto the rope tied around the rock.

The owners deserted her — and tossed her away like sea trash. Were they bored of sailing or realized they couldn’t afford the moorage? Maybe they thought they were setting her free. But boats can’t sail alone — they need someone to stay afloat.

Her presence didn’t go unnoticed. People stopped by to snap photos, wondering what her story was — the lone stranger stuck in the middle of the city.

I checked on her occasionally — she sank a little deeper each time. I sensed sadness and loneliness as the weeks passed.

Then she was gone.

Can you tell a story in six words inspired by a photo you snapped? A 2-minute backstory to accompany your six-word photo story is optional. Freestyle submissions are always open.

Submissions are now open for the February “Statues” Challenge led by Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles. The deadline to submit your story is NOON, February 29, 2024, Pacific Standard Time. See below for details!
