Storm Demon’s

a free verse poem on last night’s frightening storm

The demons have escaped Pazuzu’s command, Rising up within the south-west winds, Shrieking outside trying to get in. Roof tiles lifting incessantly banging, Whistling a terrifying sound Through gaps in the windows.

Throwing around tables and chairs outside, Smashing glasses shorting lightbulbs Disconnecting electricity supply. They howl through the coconut trees As we watch them bend, Surely they are going to snap Under evil demon power.

These insidious spirits will not let up Until they get inside, We can feel their collective energy, Their relentless strength Destroying all on the outside.

Coursing around the house, Swirling, penetrating, Feeding our fears, Rational thought giving way to Fright within our feeble minds. How best are we to deal with evil spirits? With no intention of leaving us until They have their human fill.

The torturous hours torment our minds, Will this night never find its end? We are sure our home can take no more, Leaving us all exposed to demon hunger Of which will find us all devoured.

We petition Pazuzu, make haste! Come chastise these malevolent spirits, The ones you call little Lucifers, Bring them back under your control, Take them from here Oh powerful one Retreat within the south-west winds Never let them come again.

Thank you Dr Mehmet Yildiz for giving my words a platform, and all the team at Illumination… Thank you for reading. J.
