Summary

A user expresses a desire for the return of the story editing and creation features on Medium's phone and iPad app, citing the convenience of mobility, ease of media integration, and the utility of speech-to-text functionality.

Abstract

The web content is a direct appeal to Medium from a user who misses the functionality of writing and editing stories directly on the Medium mobile app. The user emphasizes the importance of being able to quickly capture ideas on the go, as mobile devices are constantly at hand. The absence of these features on the phone and iPad app has disrupted the user's writing process, which previously benefited from the ability to easily insert images stored on the device and utilize speech-to-text for dictation. The user, identifying as a writer, represents a broader community of writers who are similarly affected by the change. The content concludes with an update that Medium has reinstated the story writing feature on the phone app, to which the user expresses gratitude.

How we miss the editing feature of stories on Phone App

Dear Medium,

Please bring back the ability to create and edit the stories on phone and iPad app.

A few things which we absolutely loved and miss about the phone/iPad app are as under:

Mobility

Well a lot of us carry our mobile devices everywhere — literally everywhere.

Regardless of where we are, when the imagination used to strike, we had the medium app near!

We were just able to grab our mobile device and put our thoughts together. We may be finishing the final product later, but drafting the thoughts on the mobile devices is just something I truly miss.

Media

I store a lot of media on my mobile devices, so adding images from phone worked like a charm. Not anymore — I have to now transfer the media to the laptop and then attach it, or end up using a canned online image instead.

Speech to Text

I don’t use it as much, but I know a lot of writers loved their phone’s speech to text feature to write their stories on their mobile devices instead of typing out their long works. With the mobile app no longer allowing the editing/creating the stories, a lot of these writers are also affected.

Thanks

Just Another Writer

Edit: Medium brought back the story writing feature on their phone app. Thank you medium.
