Summary

A daughter named Sapeha convinces her father, Fancan, to make an unscheduled stop on Earth's moon during their intergalactic vacation, where she inadvertently erases Neil Armstrong's historic footprints.

Abstract

During an intergalactic journey that has already fallen behind schedule, Sapeha, a young traveler, persuades her father to take a detour to the moon. After months of travel in a cramped spaceship, Fancan, her father, agrees to the stopover. Upon landing, Sapeha excitedly throws a red ball, which lands in the middle of Neil Armstrong's iconic footprints, altering the historic site. The story hints at the delicate balance between preserving history and the innocent, yet impactful, actions of the present.

Opinions

  • The narrative suggests a sense of wonder and curiosity about space travel and the moon, as seen through the eyes of a child.
  • There is an underlying tension between the desire to explore and the responsibility to preserve historical sites, as evidenced by the erasure of Armstrong's footprints.
  • The story implies that even seemingly harmless actions can have significant and irreversible consequences.
  • The author may be commenting on the impact of human activities on celestial bodies, reflecting contemporary concerns about space tourism and its potential effects on space heritage.

Once Sapeha spotted Earth’s moon, she started nagging Fancan. “Can we stop over there, dad? Please.”

Though their intergalactic vacation was behind schedule, Fancan reluctantly agreed. They had been inside the tiny spaceship ever since they left their home planet APX1289 four months ago.

After landing the spaceship on the moon and making sure it was safe outside, Fancan opened the hatch. Sapeha grabbed a large red ball and exited. She threw the ball as far as she could.

The ball bounced softly on the lunar soil and then fell on the middle of Neil Armstrong’s footprints, erasing them forever.
