Stop The Hating on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders

How words matter and has caused much hate in the AAPI community

The 21 Century seem to be smeared with much racism, hatred, suppression, greed, power hungry mongers, and a Godless world. In the bible, it spoke of terrible times like these. The human race seem to have lots its way of being civil in general to each other. In America, everyday society is swinging wildly out of control from the politicians to the general public. America is the country everyone wants to migrate too. Really? Thinking of all the atrocities that are going on, reminded me of scriptures in the bible that spoke of terrible times as such.

The New International Bible, 2 Timothy 3:1–5 states, “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God — 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. Reflecting for a moment will confirm what you have just read, easy to see, just look around to this new reality in the face of covid.

Words are powerful, as they can build up or destroy. Since coronavirus origin, there had been much speculation and lies that the virus came from China as it sparked a massive outcry from many who believe the lie and are now targeting innocent Asian people, young and old. They are being targeted on the streets, their homes, work, schools, stores, parks, subways, fitness classes, zoom meetings, prison, sidewalks, restaurants, and any establishment where they can be found.

For example, in a store in Alhambra, a worker refused to cash out an Asian American but proceeded to hurled racial insult for no reason other than just being hateful to someone of another ethnicity. Truly, people who do this to another for no apparent reason cannot be happy with themselves. Hurting people hurt people.

In Texas, students at school were harassing Asian American classmates accusing them of having the coronavirus and that everyone should avoid contact with them. These students need some intervention classes to see how it feels to treat another badly in this manner, and some type of punishment is warranted to arrest this type of behavior. We are taught to treat others as we desire to be treated. What has happened to society? The wrongs have become the rights and doing evil has been replaced being good. Ethics and morals are no longer part of home or school training. Crimes are being committed across the country against AAPI.

Michigan, an Asian American worker was doing her job, and out of nowhere and for no reason, a customer spat on this worker while saying, “Go home and take the COVID with you.” This was an adult who suppose to have some sense of reasoning and should be able to rationalize that everything that it is heard on television or social media from political leaders or otherwise, may not necessarily be the true or accurate. God gave everyone five senses and some people seem to have taken leave of their senses relying on others to do their thinking.

There has been verbal, physical abuse, and slangs, e.g. “ching chong” shouted at many AAPI. Some of these innocent victims have been coughed on, spat on, slapped, hit, beaten, knocked to the ground, punched in the face, refused service at businesses and call all various types of racial slurs for no reason or due to lies.

Since March 2020, attacks on the AAPI community has dramatically increase since Asians had been labeled for the origin of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China. Due to much rhetoric on a large scale from the White House, 2800 Asian hate incidents has been noted and these are the ones that got media coverage. Also, 2021, there have been 3,800 reports of racial incidents.

Per the first quarter of 2021, three of the largest cities in this Country has a very high rate of incidents, New York, 223%, San Francisco 140%, and Los Angles 80%, according to the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism.

Repeatedly on the news, there has been lots of instances where Asian Americans were attacked, harassed and verbally abused, just for walking down the street. One white woman in a park hurled racial slurs at a jogger, a Vietnamese American physician, demanding she need to cover her face. Another time, a Chinese American and her daughter while waiting for a ride from school, five boys asked: “Why are you here? Are you sick? Do you have Covid? Later, joined by a larger body of students chanted, “ Corona, corona, corona,” to the young girl as she walked toward the office.

There have been other reported incidents, in New York an elderly Asian person walking down the street along the sidewalk and out of no where a male pedestrian walk up to the person and knock the Asian person to the ground as bystanders looked on; an inmate attacked an Asian American jail custody employee; an elderly Asian lady in San Francisco was attacked and punched in the face by a white male for no apparent reason, infuriated she charged back and plunged into him beating him to a pulp so bad that he was taking away in an ambulance. While she was physically and emotionally bruised, mentally she rewarded herself by fighting back. Probably, her survival instincts kicked in.

An Asian American custody assistant at the Sheriff’s Department’s Inmate Reception Center was attacked and assaulted by an inmate during the time he was being processed and had one hand unshackled from his waist chain, allegedly punched the assistant as she offered help by given him toilet paper as he was preparing to use the restroom, hitting and causing her to crash into medical carts, followed this horrific act with two more punches to her face as she laid defenseless on the floor. Afterwards, she struggled to get up and walked away reporting what happened and the inmate was restrained. Thereafter she was taken to the hospital for bruises to her face and head. The inmate was already facing charges and currently is being in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in lieu of $105,000 bail, according to jail records.

In conclusion, the AAPI community has just as much right as any other ethnicity to travel free around the country. No one has the right to deny another a right to be here. More laws are needed to combat racism, hatred and suppression of any ethnicity, being punishable by incarceration and lawsuits. Hitting in the pocket books or wallets and loosing freedom will arrest such ill behavior. The solution is demanding local leaders to enact, implement and enforce additional discrimination laws is the key to change. #stopasianhate
