Stop Sitting On The Fence: Why It Pays To Pick A Side In Writing

I’m not a fan of confrontation, you’re not a fan of confrontation, who is?

Karen’s. There is your answer.

But for us normal people, we tend to have views that aren’t hugely controversial to avoid arguments.

Now this can be dangerous in the sense that you could become a ‘nodding head’ never voicing your own opinion.

But most people are able to both agree when it means preventing an argument, and including their own opinion in the right setting with the right people.

But how does this work in writing?

Well actually, being controversial in writing is amazing. Fence sitting in your title is an automatic snooze fest for your readers.

State your point, and do so confidently. No one wants to read something that even the own writer doesn’t believe in, make your words have some firepower, stop caring about offending people.

And even better? If you do offend people they will just add to the amount of engagement you will get.

They comment their shock and disbelief that you don’t agree with every since view they have, and their comment adds to the change seeping it’s way into your pocket through the Partner Program.

Not only that, but if you aren’t comfortable with confrontation in the real world, it’s much easier online, just close the laptop.

Some argue that there is no such thing as bad publicity, and while I don’t 100% agree with this statement it’s only in rare circumstances that it isn’t true.

So, the next time you are writing, think of your main point, now make it an absolute certainty that your readers know which side of the debate you are on.

Until next time,

Jeff.
