Stop Scrolling Your Phone And do These 7 Things Instead
Count your blessings. Read a book. Help someone.
You might have discovered this blog post while browsing on your mobile. If this is the case, I assure you are in good hands.
I am not a productivity guru or anything; I have just written some viral productivity micro-habit blogs. But this blog post is not about wasting your time. You’ve done that already. The blog will teach you some alternative things that you can do instead of scrolling on your mobile the whole day long.
1. Count your blessings
I will start with my favourite activity. For this, you need a pen and paper with you all the time. Whenever you find yourself wandering or need to scroll through your mobile, write in your gratitude journal.
A gratitude journal can be a diary, a pad or a piece of paper. Count your blessings and write them down. I cannot express how much this simple habit has helped me.
It might seem like a harmless, aimless habit, but when done with sincerity, it can shape the way you view life.
2. Read a book or a blog
Reading makes you a better person. While you’re waiting for someone, go ahead and pick a book or read a blog. If you prefer reading blogs over books, I suggest taking the $5 monthly Medium subscription, which provides you with a chance to read unlimited articles.
Surely, some people don’t like reading or complain they don’t get time to read. But that’s a lame excuse. If you can watch a full episode of Hellbound on Netflix, I am sure you have time to read a book or a blog.
3. Give someone hope
I am a sinner in disguise, but I do ask for forgiveness often. But what gives me eternal peace is giving hope to people.
When you feel like someone is having a bad day, talk to them, or listen attentively. For me, I write inspiring blogs that motivate people. If you’re an extrovert, talk to people directly.
4. Make a YouTube video
Share your day or tell people a story from your life.
If you see a problem, point it out, or if you have a skill, sing, dance or educate people.
Learn animation and make videos if you don’t like appearing in front of the camera yourself.
5. Write a journal
Jot down all your thoughts. Your deepest desires, goals, failure, success, moments that changed your life.
Journaling is an effective way to empty your brain from negative thoughts. When you write things down, it clears your mind and allows you to think something new.
6. Learn a new skill
In a highly competitive world, you cannot survive on one skill.
Take one skill that compliments your primary skill. For instance, I am a writer, and I’ve learned search engine optimization (SEO), making me a better writer than others.
Look at the primary skill and find something that helps in polishing the skill. James Altucher, in his book, Skip the line, talks about doing 10,000 experiments to gain a competitive advantage.
When you experiment a lot, you fail a lot, and you learn a lot. Ron Friedman, in his amazing book, Decoding Greatness, talks about reverse engineering skills and taking out the elements that make something successful.
7. Start a side-hustle
Don’t rely on one-stream on income. Go for side-hustles. I wrote a blog post on online side-hustles that can help you earn some extra money. Go through the post and pick one side-hustle.
Working on a 9–5 job can pay your bills. But if you want peace in life, work on your passion. Something that gives you meaning. For me, it’s writing. I use writing to inspire souls globally.
Choose one side-hustle and give 6 months and see how your life will change.
Lastly, life is too short to scroll on your mobile. Get on with these things and do something worthy with your life.
