STOP! Now, thank yourself

3 things to thank yourself for

Photo by Amy Shamblen on Unsplash

1. You had your back — Who was there when everyone else wasn’t? Who kept you sane? Who kept you safe? That’s right, you did. If a friend did all this for you, what would you say to this person/do for this person?

Generally, I feel the more we treat ourselves like we are separate beings from ourselves, the better care and recognition we give to ourselves. I have a friend who says “bless me” whenever he sneezes and his entire thought process behind saying that is commendable. And if we really think about it, if no one’s there, do I not still deserve this blessing?

“I learned a long time ago the wisest thing I can do is be on my own side” — Maya Angelou

2. Your efforts You’re doing better for yourself or even at the very least, you’re trying.

How many times have you made a list of things you had to achieve, then gone ahead to achieve them? If you forgot to thank yourself then you better get started because I bet some of those things weren’t easy.

All year long, you work, sacrifice, get an education, acquire skills, and have to-do lists for every other day, just to make sure that YOU are fine in the end.

“You control your life, you control your path to success” — Garrett Pierson

You know, when this topic comes up, what comes into most people’s minds would be to treat themselves. That’s good but I don’t think it should apply all the time. Only pets get treats regularly for doing good.

Humans on the other hand, when we carry out tasks for other people, sometimes the sincere gratitude from the other person is usually enough, no?

We get that sense of accomplishment and being recognized for it gives us all satisfaction sometimes. In that case, we should be able to do this for ourselves too. Practice speaking in a positively and encouragingly way to yourself. You never know, it could make all the difference, considering you can’t possibly treat yourself every single time you do something good/productive.

3. Your plans/goals — In reality, it doesn’t just end in what I’ve previously talked about. There’s still more that you have in store for you.

You’re working towards something better for a better you and you’re relentless. Your consistency is admirable and your dedication is inspiring. Be grateful to yourself for that.

So what if you’ve faltered? You picked it up and kept it moving. That’s all that counts.

Keep at the good work and I hope all your plans will align :)

“Either you run the day or the day runs you” — Jim Rohn

In conclusion,

You’ve come a long way, been through so much, and still have a lot to experience. Appreciate yourself more, you’re incredible!
