Stop Glamourizing Working From Home

It sucks!

I see people sharing on social media, especially on TikTok, that they don’t want to go back to the office and it pisses me off big time.

Like, what’s so glamourous in working from home that you don’t wish to go back to the office? Please enlighten me, and I will explain why I hate it.

Oh, and I’m an introvert. As crazy as it sounds, I wish to go back to the office as soon as possible.

Before I continue my rant, I want to share that this crazy situation isn’t my first time being in the role of working from home. A few years ago I was freelancing while I was between jobs. During those days, I didn’t have an opinion about working from home; it was a way to pass time while earning something before I got the traditional job.

Last year when this all started, and we were in lockdown, working from home was OK. I didn’t have a choice; we were all stuck at home. My tasks were the same, in a different context. The only thing that changed is that we were having weekly staff meetings, and I dreaded those. Total waste of time and unproductive.

Also, during that time, I wasn’t rushing to go back to the office. I enjoyed being stuck at home and not seeing people from work.

Then the lockdown ended, and we could go back to the office occasionally. Once a week if you share an office or if you are by yourself, you had no limits in-office time. I share an office with another colleague, my boss, and we rotated in the first few months (during summer). In September and October, we were both in the office at the same time (it was allowed).

November brought another round of rotational office time, and it hit me harder than the first time. It’s not that I adore people in the office and wish to see them every day, I just need to get out of the house and have at least some kind of normality.

Also, I’ve noticed that my productivity is down when I’m not in the office. There are too many distractions, no matter how much I try to have some peace while working. And there is that availability to family members when you are at home. They don’t care you are working. You are expected to cook, or order food, to do homework with your kid. The list goes on and on.

Reasons I hate working from home and wish to go back to the office:

  • it’s not normal to sit at home when you have an office to go to, even if it’s for a day every week;
  • I’m not productive, thus I’m more prone to mistakes, and I hate that;
  • I get out of the house — I would rather run errands on my way back home from the office than after I finish work when I’m at home;
  • I thought there will be more when I started this rant, but I think these three are enough.

I wish to learn why you like working from home if that’s the case.

Please leave a comment. I want to know why people don’t want to go back to the office.
