Phones (can) kill

I know this problem exists in the States, but I thought maybe in France it was different.

NOPE — drivers are on their phones here too.

Walking down the street, I heard tires screech. A car almost hit the motorcyclist in front of her. He was already stopped at a red light, then this lady on her friggin phone almost crashed into him!

She was inches from his rear motorcycle tire. The guy on the bike didn’t even seem to notice that she’d nearly run into him. She didn’t though, and that’s a good thing, but wow. That could’ve easily been an accident.

Not a fatal one, but still. It’s needless.

I love my phone, don’t get me wrong, but I will not touch it while driving, especially in France! We live just outside of Paris, but it’s Paris traffic. So much is going on all the time.

Peds, bikers, buses, emergency vehicles, people on scooters…and then you have motorcyclists weaving in and out and riding right beside you, it’s incredibly dangerous! You need “constant vigilance!” as Professor Moody always says in Harry Potter.

I wish motorcyclists didn’t have to risk their lives when riding, but they do.

I have a friend in Colorado who rode a motorcycle for seven years, then he gave it up. I asked him why and he said, “I didn’t want to die.”

My husband rode for a few years too. I’m glad he doesn’t now. Two people hit him during those years. I’m grateful they were minor accidents and he wasn’t hurt.

I beg you — please put your phones away when you drive. You’re saving lives.
