Stop Acting Like The Beatles Are Musical Geniuses
They’re just some heartthrob white boys from England
I never understood the hype around The Beatles.
I like a few songs, but I can’t swoon over them like white teenage girls from the 60s. People still do it now.
Someone once told me The Beatles were “musical gods.” This got me thinking…what the hell is so appealing about The Beatles?
So I took a music history class based on The Beatles and…I’m still not impressed.
First of all, The Beatles did covers of black musicians such as The Isley Brothers and Little Richard on their first album, “Please Please Me.” Everyone knows The Beatles for the song “Twist And Shout,” when in reality, The Isley Brothers created that song.
*Gasp*
I know. The Beatles have also stolen riffs from Chuck Berry throughout their career. Black musicians laid the foundation for The Beatles to even experiment with their music.
Heck, Paul McCartney said this in 1987:
“If The Beatles ever wanted a sound, it was R&B.”
That tells me everything I need to know right there.
Oh, and another popular Beatles song — “Come Together.”
They stole the riff from Chuck Berry — AGAIN.
One has to notice there’s a pattern here. There’s a reason why black people aren’t up the Beatles’ assholes like everyone else is.
There’s nothing soulful about them to me, at least.
The worst part?
These black musicians weren’t properly compensated for their contributions to Rock N’ Roll. They’re erased from the history books. It’s amazing how people STILL think Elvis Presley and The Beatles invented Rock.
Elvis also took a lot of inspiration from black gospel music.
Here’s the moral of the story:
Leave Beatlemania behind. If The Beatles were never inspired by black musicians, what would they be? Cute white boys from England?
I’ll let you figure that out.
