Steps To Turn Your Crowd Into A Community
Tips from the Serving Circle
In my life journey, I love to speak with peers about what they are up to. This is how I learn, gain wisdom, and make the journey that much easier. I do this in my business and personal life. With this in mind, I have always sought out or embraced coaching and:
· Support groups,
· collaboration.
· mentoring
· …And mastermind groups
A favorite free support group I am in is called the Serving Circle. I attend their ZOOM meeting every Tuesday from 7–8:30 PM (EST). It’s usually attended by about 25 great heart-felt people, all looking to make a difference in the world and become more prosperous in body, mind, and spirit.
The founder and leader of the group is a young Aussie named Tyson Sharpe
Tyson is an inspired motivator and a great leader. I go to the group to promote my FREE 7-Module Ask Lewis Mentoring Method. I’m grateful for all the success I have had in my life and continue to have. Offering this mentoring program is my way of giving back.
I receive a weekly email from Tyson (I assume, that he sends it to everyone in the group). Many have useful business or personal growth tips. I got one today on “Steps To Turn Your Crowd Into A Community”.
It’s a great article.
The article doesn’t sell anything. Just great solid conscious business wisdom. I hope you enjoy it.

If your content and marketing seem to be falling on deaf ears, remaining stagnant, and not generating the reach, leads, and clients you desire, this is for you.
I am currently delving into the work of Seth Godin, who highlights a few mistakes business owners make when marketing their business through building an audience.
He suggests that most business owners market as if they are talking to a crowd. They talk to the masses with the sole focus of sharing valuable information and working on how to increase distribution channels.
This, however, does not create the optimal environment for something to grow.
As he puts it…
“Crowds are interesting and they can create all kinds of worthwhile artifacts and market effects. But tribes (or communities) are longer lasting and more effective.”
Why is this?
- A community rally around a shared interest
- Have more effective and efficient communication channels
Let’s look at these two factors in more detail…
Questions to spark your own shared interest
What’s a shared interest that people can really be around as a by-product of your business? What is something you stand for? Even better, what’s something you stand for that is innovative, bold, or revolutionary for your industry? What would have people talking about you to their family, friends, and colleagues? What’s a collective goal that your audience is looking to achieve?
Communication Channels
Rather than just trying to reach larger numbers, try tightening your community by elevating your communication.
There are 4 ways the communication channels can improve:
- Leader to the community members
- The community members to the Leader
- The community members to other members
- Community members to outside non-members
Questions: Which one is lacking in your business and content strategy? Which one can you focus on improving this week? Brainstorm some ideas for just 5 minutes and see what you can create.
Truth be told, this is what I believe helped the Serving Circle grow into what it is today. I hardly ever focused on how to ‘promote’ the group to new people. Instead, most of my focus goes on the existing members and making sure they receive higher levels of value. Best of all, it’s fun to do so!
Being different.
Your results are amplified when you are different.
Be different from your classical ‘content marketing’ strategies and stop just trying to grow your numbers. Evidence has shown that as a by-product of this ‘community-focused’ shift, your numbers expand as you are now creating raving fans, not just followers.
Imagine a tight group who spread the word for you, where you love supporting them, and in turn, they love supporting you!
When you innovate in this way, with a meaningful cause, you will inject some joy, creativity, and enthusiasm back into the growth of your business.
Try it for the next 30 days as an experiment and see what happens!
Once again, if you want to brainstorm ideas on how to do this, feel free to book a chat with me and/or join the bonus group coaching call this week.
We are here for you, and you can do this!
