Step into Your Best Life with a Script
Forget writing a letter to your future self this technique fast tracks where you want to be in life

Late last year I started getting into the teachings of the late Bob Proctor a Canadian personal development speaker and writer.
His teachings have transformed my life for the better in countless ways.
On one of his free five-day online training, streamed on YouTube last year he gave listeners a daily exercise to do.
That exercise was to write a detailed script of your life in the present tense (like its already happening) of how you want your life to be in every area.
I had never heard of this idea before. I had heard of writing a letter to your future self which in the past I had done but in all honesty, found it bland.
So I became intrigued with the idea of writing a script for my life and decided to try it out being the eager and curious student of life that I am.
It took me a few weekends to write out my script, in fact, seven weekends and I wrote six full A4 pages. Very detailed which is what I wanted for myself.
I needed to give myself this time to really get clear on what I wanted in the following 7 areas of life which I believe are important areas to master in one’s life:
- Mindset
- Health (physical, mental, emotional, etc)
- Work/Vocation
- Money
- Relationships (with myself, family, and others)
- Spirituality
- Social ( how you show up in the world, hobbies, etc)
As I wrote my script I stepped into the spirit of each of these areas and really got clear on what I wanted.
I wrote it by hand (writing is powerful as writing causes feelings and helps form pictures in your mind which then sends electrical impulses to the brain).
However, you can of course type your script if you prefer. Whatever works for you is what you should do.
If writing by hand best to use a pencil as you can make corrections as you write and rewrite.
I know for me I ended up rubbing out a lot of things countless times as I got more and more clear on what I wanted.
I firmly established who I needed to be in each of these areas and what I wanted but it took several rewrites.
I let my imagination soar with no boundaries and got in touch with my deepest desires and can't recommend it enough to you.
It is powerful beyond description!
You're essentially the director writing the script for your movie — your life.
Allow yourself to fall in love with this idea. I did and still am in love with it.
Over the course of those seven weekends, I went for long morning walks and would ask myself “what do I really want?”
The answers eventually started to emerge which then helped me get clear on my script.
“Clarity is power” goes the old saying and I couldn't agree more!
If you are not clear at this point in time on what you want for your life please dont write your script at least not just yet.
At best you'll write something you think sounds good or worse base it on what other people think is how you should live your life. Avoid it at all costs.
If you currently dont know what you want for your life — Join the party.
97% if not more of the human population dont know what they want.
Please dont beat yourself up over it as it takes time to figure it out.
It honestly took me years to get to where I am now.
There is no way I would have been able to write a script for my life just 18 months ago. I was quite lost and stuck in so many ways.
It was only through my immersion in the teachings of Bob Proctor in late 2021 that things started to turn around for me and I got more clarity about myself.
I should add too that I had been on a real journey of self-discovery and growth for a couple of years prior to this which no doubt helped a lot too.
But if you are where I previously was and dont know what you want for your life
or
have some idea but it's not clear enough then a good place to start is with knowing what you dont want and flipping the switch.
Knowing what you dont want provides contrast and helps you figure out what you do want.
Then from here spend some time in self-reflection and just moments of quiet with yourself to get clear on what you want.
Figuring out what you want and then writing a script for your life takes time.
You're not going to do it in a day or a week.
If you do, it's probably not going to be a very good script.
Allow yourself time to figure out what you love doing, who you want to be, and what you want to have.
This is such a powerful exercise and beats writing to your future self or even talking to your so-called ‘younger self’ every time.
The problem with those exercises is that they dont stretch your imagination far enough and often bring up painful emotions like regret and apprehension.
But this exercise is all about letting your imagination soar with no limits and most important of all stepping into your script — your future/dream life now.
You live as if it’s already happening in the now.
This can be very hard to do as for the most we are not taught to think like this.
I know I wasn't growing up and even when I entered adulthood. I was told you have to ‘see it to believe it.’
But now I realize that it's the other way around — you have to ‘believe it to see it.’ This requires a real shift in thinking and overall perception.
Traditional thinking and goal setting which I’ve never personally been a fan of is always about working towards your goals, dreams, etc, and being ‘realistic.’
After studying Bob Proctor and his teachings I have come to believe that this way of thinking is bland, boring, and outdated so we need a new model.
Working from the end, as if it's already happening is that new model.
“Thinking from the end is the beginning of all miracles.” Bob Proctor
Actors do this all the time, they step into character now until they become it. The same can be said of top athletes and performers.
It's got nothing to do with the so-called “fake till you make it” philosophy.
Rather it's about stepping into your true self and getting into the frequency of what you want now not in the future.
Your propelling yourself into your best life now.
You do need to exercise your imagination a lot for this exercise.
Remember you already are using your imagination. All of us are.
The question is: Are you using it for yourself or against yourself?
Most people use it against themselves constantly worrying, imagining a bleak future, worst-case scenarios, etc.
Why not use your imagination which is one of the greatest gifts given to all of us but not used adequately by all for the good you desire in your life?
Start with writing a script of what you want for your life in every detail but base it on the present tense, not the future tense.
Let go of any ideas that its too grand, risky, ‘out there’. Who cares?
It's your life, your movie, and your the main actor, not the extra.
If your deepest desire is to join the circus go for it! Write it in your script.
Remember no one has to see it. Just you.
Once you’ve written your script that’s where the real work begins.
Dont just expect that what you've written will just land in your lap.
It doesn't work like that.
You now have to make your script work for you.
That’s how you bring it to life or else it stays stillborn.
This isn't some fluffy exercise either that you just do and then think “oh wasn’t that interesting” and then forget about it and go on with your life.
You bring it to life with the following formula: the 3 Rs.
Read= read your script on a consistent basis. Even just one section 7 days a week or even for a whole month. That way you are laser-focused on this one section. Ideas, people & overall serendipities will start appearing in your life.
Record= record your script on your phone and play it back to you. It will help to impress it on your subconscious mind which cant distinguish what's real and what's imagined. You can add music to it for extra impact.
Review= review your script at least once a month to see how you're going with it. Change and adjust where necessary and plan and set goals each month around your script to help make it a reality.
Burn this formula of the three Rs in your brain. It's powerful stuff.
As I mentioned my script is six pages long so I like to just focus on one area so I dont get overwhelmed and dont scatter my focus all over the place.
I have been focusing on one area for the past two months. I read, record, and review it.
I ensure that each week in particular on Sundays when I plan out my week I ask myself:
“What is one thing I can do this week to help me bring an aspect of my script to life?”
Once you start doing this and the above formula the script isn't just a fantasy anymore.
It slowly becomes reality as you start attracting people, opportunities, and circumstances your way that brings what you wrote to life.
You’ll step into your best life now not sometime in the future.
If you know my writing by now you’ll see that I only write about:
- things that are highly practical and highly actionable (it's my mantra)
- things that I've personally tested out and applied to my life
I will add things that are not just ‘fluffy’, ‘positive thinking’ etc. Im a realist with an open and curious mind that's forever exploring better ways to be.
Start writing your script and it could very well be the best thing you do for the whole of 2022.
In fact, why not launch yourself fully into the rest of this year and even 2023 with your script. Use it to propel yourself into 2022 and next year.
When next year comes make changes to your script. Upgrade it as just like with software we need upgrades to get better.
Remember that you can't script everything eg: pandemics, unexpected deaths, accidents, etc but you can most certainly script your responses to these.
When my mom was diagnosed with stage IIII colon cancer in January of this year I hadn't scripted that, but I scripted the overall response and outcome.
