Step by Step Guide on How To Create an Online Course Worth $129
You can do it, even if you are an introvert
You have read a lot of articles about creating an online course. There were a lot of testimonies from people making money out of it.
Big names have launched video courses with premium prices — and many people do not mind paying as long as they are secure in wisdom and guidance.
I have bought some myself to increase my knowledge. Some were trash while others were fine — and a few were worth my money (and time). Being a consumer of content made me aware that I need to be specific to details when it is my turn to sell a course.
It will never be perfect –but good if you strive to launch a knowledge product worthy of the money they pay to you.
To have my (own) online course (was) a long-time dream for me since 2018. It took me four years before I made it a reality.
Introversion got in the way
When you read articles or attend courses, it moves you to the next step. It feels like you merely need encouragement.
They say that as long as you have a good camera and a topic to share — you are ready to go, record it, and share it with the public. I knew there was a process to observe when I made the first step, and introversion got in the way — so I strategized to make things happen (for me).
I am not good at videos — and that is why I chose to write on this platform. But to maximize my earnings, I needed to venture into other channels.
I am not a spontaneous speaker. The way I process information takes time for me to utter it into words.
Do not ignore the basics
First things first — you need to determine a revenue-generating video course that you can teach.
If you have something in mind already, you need to ensure that it solves a problem. To validate an existing market for it, you can research if your selected category can make you money.
You can check Udemy or Skillshare, what courses are selling.
The benefit must be explicit
When you have a topic in mind already — determine the current status of the audience you are reaching and what point of the destination they are pursuing.
While constructing your course topic — be mindful of the current journey of your target audience.
The first is to work on a course title that conveys the message that concerns your prospects. If the headline of the course is generic, it will be difficult for the audience to determine it. Therefore expect them to ignore it.
Work on the flow
Every written content observes spontaneous transitions. May it be an article, book, or business presentation, as you go along with the slides — it must undergo a smooth flow.
Frame an outline by breaking down your topic into modules. In this manner, it would be easy for the audience to absorb knowledge as they move up the curve.
Once you have polished the outline, you can use Canva and download it as a pdf afterward.
Do not worry if you have a poor memory
I have developed the skill to speak to a live audience.
But when I video record myself, there are long intervals — and editing the in-between spaces seem awkward (in reality).
Instead of recording a video of myself speaking while showing the slides (videocast) simultaneously — I recorded myself talking in a video with a script (in front of me). It eliminates the gaps in between.
Marry the two
To integrate the presentation slides and my video recording — My wife taught me to use the Inshot app to get the job done quickly.
Make sure the presentation slides correspond to the words you utter.
Otherwise, the output would be a disaster.
Search a host for your online course
I uploaded my LinkedIn Video Course in Gumroad and Teachable for Free.
For every sale you make, they will charge you fees for the hosting and payment platform.
The only thing left to do is market your course — and they will take charge from beginning to end. There are also pricing packages accompanied with features that would suit your requirements.
Understanding the funnel
I created this course since I have been doing one-on-one LinkedIn sessions with people.
Since my time is limited — and I can only accommodate three people post-pandemic, I decided to automate the process. I have developed a following already on LinkedIn by attracting potential leads through my content.
I developed a small email list where I market my stuff. If you do not have an active community yet, try exploring Udemy or Skillshare.
Good to partner also with affiliate marketers to boost your sales.
Key takeaways
Building a course is not hard since you have a mechanism ready.
Choose a topic that would solve problems. Outline it — and once polished — transfer it to a pdf document. If you are shy in front of the camera, do not worry — you can use a script.
Consolidate the two by editing them properly. Find a reliable host — they offer packages for free. Once done, work on your funnel.
Make use of your copywriting skills. If you do not have an audience yet — do not worry. There are marketplaces available to showcase your expertise.
