Stats Talk: High Engagement for My Stories Published on Illumination
1 week, 10 stories, 330 views, 231 reads, read ratio of 70%, and 133 fans. It may not be much for you, but for me, it is.
I’m heavily dominated by the right hemisphere of my brain — the one which controls the left side of the body, where the heart is — responsible for art and creativity. And, that may be the reason I am among the top writers in Poetry on Medium. The left hemisphere of my brain — the analytical one, which, by the way, is not in any conflict with the right one — keeps analyzing the daily life data to find trends and patterns.
I check my stats every day to improve my writing method. It helps me decide what to write about, when to publish, how long the stories length should be etc. I never thought of writing about it until I read Dr Mehmet Yildiz’s story: Metrics for Writers on ILLUMINATION. The article can be summed up in Peter Drucker’s famous quote: “What gets measured gets managed.” Dr suggests that for writers to survive and thrive, they must understand their Medium stats.
In the last 7 days, I published 10 stories at Illumination. Stats for those are as follows.

Note: I chose the last 7 days and 10 stories, as the sample size to make my point.
- Total views: 330
- Total reads: 231
- Total fans: 133
It means, on average, when I publish a story, it gets:
- Views per story: 33
- Reads per story: 23
- Fans per story: 13
The above numbers may not look much to you, but to me, as a new Medium publisher, they mean a lot.
And now coming to the most important one: Read Ratio.
Read ratio is the relationship between your views and reads — how many people who viewed your stories actually read them.
On average, I get a staggering 70% Read Ratio for my stories published on Illumination. It means when I post my work; people read and interact with me.

To summarize, since I started writing for Illumination, my views, reads, fans, claps, comments, highlights, and the overall engagement have skyrocketed.
Thank you, Illumination.
