Start With Your Desired Future Self …
And see what happens.

We just stepped into the second half of 2022. The last six months have practically flown by. It seemed like history when Trump was in. And another lifetime since Y2K.
My partner’s dad passed away two days ago. As the family reminisces with the old photo albums (pre-digital), preparing for the funeral, I am mulling over how fast time does fly, regardless of whether you’re having fun!
It seems like another lifetime since my kids were babies. And looking back, I see a few reinventions of self — adapting to the many changes life brings — birth, divorce and death.
But between now and when you take your last breath …
What’s on the agenda?
They say that 10% of life is what happens to you and 90% is how you respond to what happens to you. How’s it working out for you? If you were to take stock of things, how would you rate the critical areas of your life?
- Family.
- Community.
- Health.
- Leisure.
- Finances.
- Friendships
- Work.
- Creative Expression.
- Spirituality.
In what areas do you struggle, and what areas have you mastered? What would you like to see happen?
The vision
Any attempt at change must start with a vision of the desired outcome. If you want improvements in your relationship, you need to imagine a healthy relationship. If you want a more fulfilling career, picture what that would look like.
It’s about you
Everything starts with your thoughts. Guard your mind. Feed it with things that nourish you. And bring you closer to your desired self.
If you want to transform any aspect of your life, you cannot use the exact blueprint you have in the past. The good news is that everything starts with you, which means you get to navigate this journey. The bad news is that everything begins with you — it takes courage.
Seek mentors
You might not have witnessed a loving relationship if there were many conflicts in the home in which you grew up. If you desire an improvement in your relationship, seek mentors or surround yourself with people in healthy relationships.
You are the average of the five people with whom you spend the most amount of your time. Who are your closest friends? Are they also your allies? The ones who have your back.
If you want a healthier body, seek the help of a wellness coach. And start hanging out with people who have similar values.
The second half
As you plan for the next half of this year, take some time to self-reflect. What if you were deliberate — about your thoughts, self-talk, vision and the people surrounding you? What would the rest of this year look like?
