Start Hanging Out with People Who Know What They Want
And move from good to great

You are not average.
You never were, but you wouldn’t know it by the people you hang out with.
It’s time to start hanging out with people who are driven by things that matter.
Jim Rowen, famous businessman and entrepreneur is often attributed with saying:
You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
Rowen’s idea has gained popularity, and while the premise of his concept is essential, it needs a facelift.
The people who you hold closest, the ones you spend the most time with affect your thinking. They have an impact on your success, so it’s essential to choose them carefully. If you continue to try to fit in with the crowd you will never stand out. Dare to be different. If the group is going one way, you should run the other way.
Stop hanging out with people who pull you down.
Instead, surround yourself with people who are high-performers.
Movers and shakers
These are people who are highly ambitious and driven. They want a life that’s better than the life they came from, and they are prepared to do what’s necessary to earn a good living. They will move from good to great by achieving the life they dream of having. They are willing to work hard and make life better for themselves while giving back to others. They have passion and compassion to make the world a better place.
Ambition is enthusiasm with a purpose– Frank Tyger
Integrity
Integrity is the quality of being honest and having a moral compass. People who have a moral compass are good people. The pressure of a crowd does not sway them. They do the right thing when no one is looking. These are people who know who they are and what they stand for. You want to be around them because they always seem to do what’s right. Show me a person who has good principles, and I’ll show you a person who probably also has integrity.
Don’t assume, ask. Be kind. Tell the truth. Don’t say anything you can’t stand behind fully. Have integrity — Warsan Shire
Motivators
Motivators are people who challenge you and inspire you. They are willing to help you make hard choices about things to do or not to do because they have your best in mind. Scientists define motivation as your general willingness to do something. Motivators go an extra step by expressing sincerity and compassion for your situation. Motivation happens when you have a network of both encouragers and supporters. Motivators help you do good work.
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence — Helen Keller
Show up when called
Be the person who shows up when called or called upon. These are people you know and trust implicitly. When you are called, you answer. And you would do the same in return, not because it’s popular, because it’s right. You encourage in times of trouble. In urgent situations, you show up as a friend and a confidant.
The true measure of a best friend is where they are when you “make” the biggest decision of your life, not where they were during the decision process. — Shannon L. Alder
Be open to change
Your inner circle will evolve. It’s part of life. Not only will the people you hang out with grow, but you will develop too. Change is the one constant. Sometimes people come close for a time, but they are seldom close for a lifetime. For growth to happen, you adapt your habits and thinking. It is a constant process of refinement. We’re never done refining ourselves into better people.
Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people — Eleanor Roosevelt
As we change and grow, we make new friends, get different desires, and develop new ideas. Achieving a new goal is a unique chance for growth. With the right people around us, we can continually soar to new heights.
Choose your inner circle well and start in your corner to make the world a better place. Don’t be like the gossipers who write tabloid newspapers. You are better than that. At least be good and kind. If you dare to stand out, do so as you discuss ideas and move from good people, to become a great people.
No one wants to be good, who can stand out as being great.
Consider who you help along the way.
