Space, vast and endless, holds stories untold. At a remote pub floating among stars, where galaxies converge, two figures debated fiercely, their voices carrying through the crowded room.
“Parallel universes, eh? Pure fantasy!” scoffed Jax, a bounty hunter known across galaxies for his sharp wit and sharper aim. His past, a shadowy tale of loss and betrayal, had shaped him into a man of few words but profound thoughts.
“Aye, but consider the possibilities, mate,” retorted Lyra, an air pirate with a reputation as colourful as her language, her history a blend of adventure, thievery, and heartache. “Worlds upon worlds, each choice branching into a new reality.”
Jax leaned back, eyeing Lyra sceptically. “And you’ve seen these, have you? These alternate realities?”
Lyra grinned, her eyes twinkling with mischief and memories. “Not seen, mate. Felt. There’s a difference. Each decision we make, right? It’s like ripples through the cosmos.”
The debate raged on, theories flying like comets across a night sky. Patrons paused, drinks forgotten, drawn into the vortex of their conversation.
“Why so keen on proving this, pirate?” Jax mused, curiosity piqued. His life had taught him to question everything, trust sparingly.
Lyra’s smile faded, her gaze drifting to the stars beyond the window. “Lost someone, once. Thought maybe, in another universe, things turned out differently.”
Jax’s heart skipped. Loss, a familiar sting. “We all have ghosts, Lyra. Doesn’t mean we can chase them through fantasies.”
Lyra nodded, the weight of worlds in her eyes. “Maybe. But what if it’s not fantasy? What if it’s science, just beyond our grasp?”
The night deepened, conversations dwindling as patrons departed, leaving Jax and Lyra amidst empty glasses and fading echoes of laughter.
“So, bounty hunter,” Lyra began, her voice softer, “if there were a chance, would you take it? To see those other worlds?”
Jax considered his thoughts a whirlwind of ifs and maybes. “Perhaps. But not alone.”
A smile crept onto Lyra’s face, genuine and warm. “Nor I, mate. Nor I.”
Silence fell, comfortable and companionable. Two souls, adrift in the vastness of space, finding solace in shared dreams of what could be.
As dawn approached, painting the cosmos in hues of pink and gold, Jax and Lyra stood, decision made.
“To the stars, then,” Jax declared, extending his hand.
“To the stars,” Lyra agreed, clasping it firmly.
