Standing on the edge

A poem about tenacity

Crunchtime Sunshine Where do you think you’re going Did you believe that this would end With no one ever knowing?

There’s no bottom to that pit You’re standing on the edge Reality is closing in You tiptoe on the ledge.

Why did you wait, you could have run And now you’d be okay You closed your eyes and fooled yourself That this would go away.

Still I see you try to smile And there’s a glimmer in your eyes You must be crazy not to quit I guess delusion never dies.

The world will know about your failings Where will you go? How will you eat? Why don’t you just lay down and die Don’t you realise when you’re beat?

“You’re wrong, it isn’t over yet I’m not beat, I’m only down I’ll figure out a way to live I know things will turn around.

And if my friends all walk away They won’t be enemies They’ll be people, just like you Who don’t believe in me.

I don’t have anything right now It’s taught me what I need There is gratitude and grit Where there was pride and greed.”
