Squid Game Is Back In 2024
The suspense is finally over: there will be a Season 2 for Squid Game this current year.
If you haven’t seen season 1 of Squid Game, don’t worry, there will be no spoilers other than the short trailer below.
Squid Game is a series that explores the depths of human nature.
What would you do if someone suggested you take part in games where winning could solve all your financial problems for life?
The characters chosen for these games all have the same problems: either it’s an unsolvable financial situation, or it’s a health condition.
The rules of the games are childish. You win, you stay in the competition. You lose, you’re out of the competition. But if you lose, you lose forever.
A metaphorical series
I see this series like a metaphor. Sometimes you come to a point in your life where life will not give you another chance:
- You’re so in debt that you cannot even serve your primary needs.
- You have no one to help you, and you cannot even help yourself.
- Your health is critical and you cannot afford a cure.
The organizers of the Squid Game will give you the last chance, but for two purposes:
- They want to be entertained in a unique way.
- You want to give someone the chance to start from scratch with a generous bank account.
This show is rough, brutal and gruesome, but in a way it is true. We’re in a world run by money, and there are very rich people who watch people die every day without caring: they even find it entertaining.
Capitalism is about speculation. Putting money here and there and seeing what happens. What we seem to forget is that behind that money invested are real people with families and jobs, and they are fighting hard to survive. While all the richest do is speculate on “success” and “failure”.
People are starving. People are dying from war. While rich people get richer, washing their hands from all kinds of responsibility.
Instead of looking at human life, they think of colateral damages. Instead of thinking about the value of a human life, they think about financial interests.
It also shows what people are willing to do to get what they don’t have. It portrays an incredible dilemma: whose life is more important; mine or my neighbours?
Squid Game is a perfect exploration of these issues. It explains them all in a fascinating, breathtaking and heartbreaking series. And Most Wanted Season 2 has been announced for release later this year!
