Springing From Winter’s Gloom

I sit waiting.

Author photo circa 2007

The gray left by winter is sloughing off, while brown, barren stalks await my shears.

Thunderstorms and rain, a seemingly infinite lack of sunlight darkens my mood.

Soon, from out of nowhere the dogwood will bloom and the redbuds burst into a fuchsia display.

Hostas will peek their pointy heads out of the earth as the coral bells begin their expansion.

I sit waiting …

The beginning of Spring in the Midwest is an ugly thing. Snow melts leaving behind brown everything, including mud and dirt. Even the weeds are brown.

This poem came from hearing the weather report this morning. Another day of thunderstorms and cloudy weather.

Photo of author’s back yard this morning. Ugh.

According to my forecast, tomorrow is sunny … sun on brown is still better than gray on brown, eh?

I hope your day is sunny and bright! :)

Trust me it will get brighter if you read this wonderful story! Birdsong and a dangerous hiking trek in one!

And, this is exactly what I am longing for! (Also, what a gorgeous illustration!)
