Spring is Almost Here…Watch Out for Snakes!

I only hate/fear one animal…can you guess it?

Spring is one of the best times of the year in Texas. Warmer and longer days are perfect for going out and enjoying the outdoors.

New leaves on the trees and all of the different flowers make it relaxing to spend time in nature.

Except for one problem…

Now is the time snakes become much more active, and you can find them nearly everywhere. If you are a snake lover that’s great, unless you get bit by a copperhead or a water moccasin.

I’ve hated my snakes my entire life. I don’t care if it’s a 10-foot chicken snake, a small garter snake, or an angry rattlesnake.

Yes, I know snakes play a key role in our ecosystem, but I’m sure another animal can fill their void, and the world will keep spinning.

I also didn’t include a photo of a snake for this article because I can’t stand to look at them, whether it’s in real life or virtual!

Luckily, I don’t encounter nearly as many snakes since I have an outside cat. She sleeps 20 hours a day, but she somehow still keeps most snakes out of the yard.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t around last year when I went swimming at night with my nephew at my sister’s swimming pool.

I had my back turned in the swimming pool, but I only needed to hear the word “Snake!” to turn into the next Michael Jordan and jump halfway out of the pool before it got near me.

Okay, maybe I’m slightly exaggerating my athletic ability, but it still wasn’t a fun experience, and now I’m paranoid every time I swim!

Thank you for reading my mini-rant. I hope you found it somewhat entertaining.

I’m nearly positive I’ve jinxed myself, and I’ll see a snake soon!
