Spirituality — What Does it Mean to You?
When I learned to trust God with my soul
Spirituality is a communion of the soul and the Divine
My spirituality means everything to me!
I do not know of a time I did not believe there was more out there.
Even as a child I somehow always knew there was God and never doubted.
I was/am still very introverted and introspective and do some of my best work when I am alone.
There was always a “humming” along the periphery of my life that hinted at the divine.
Being young I did not pay it too much mind.
Though I always knew I would serve Him when I was older.
I did a lot of dreaming in those days and the adults tell me I spoke a lot in my sleep, actually having conversations. I do not remember this.
But during the time I was sick, I really went deep into spirituality.
Once I received a diagnosis and a recommendation for surgery, (I actually needed the surgery ASAP), I went home and told my mother to limit the distractions because I needed to “find” God.
Only immediate relatives were allowed and negative talk was forbidden.
I went deep into myself, there I discovered a deep abiding and loving divine being who would show ‘Itself” to me in ways I could never doubt or forget.
Today my faith is unshakeable!
I cannot be separated from my spirituality and my love of God.
My spirituality is not to be confused with religion.
I don’t even buy into any particular religion.
I commune with my God on a soul level.
For me this means, I go to Him directly, not through a religious denomination.
I recognize that God is not contained in any one space and I do not need anyone to intercede in my relationship with him.
He is accessible to and for anyone who seeks him out.
I do read the bible and I believe, but I feel more at peace with spirituality when I walk among his creations and I bless them, thank them, and thank Him for his providence.
I converse with Him as if he is a friend and amazingly the answers sometimes come to me in crystal clear thoughts that were not mine.
In earlier times, when other people would say God spoke to them, I was the skeptic who in my mind would say, yea right!
Now I know differently, God does speak to us.
And, when he speaks to you, you WILL know it.
Final words
Today, my spirituality has become an integral part of who I am.
I remind my children that when I am long gone, seek God out and he will be there for them.
Explore what spirituality means to you, seek out what speaks to your soul.
Our souls know the truth.
God does speak to us and he does it in simple ways.
Try speaking to him the way you would speak to someone you love and soon you will be able to tell us about your experiences with your own spiritual growth.
